What was your 1st gun?

I was doing a little cleaning in my shop today, and got to thinking about all the nice guns that I have owned in my life. There in the middle of this group sits my 1st gun. A little Savage 410-22 over and under, the model with the button on the side. Got it for my 12th birthday in 1965. ( now y'all know I am getting old ). My parents later told me they paid $35.00 for it, and yes. it was used. Blueing is pretty thin, and stock finish aint very pretty either, but it is never leaving my hands. Too many memories of after school squirrel hunts.

Marlin, model 100, .22 cal, bolt action, single shot. Just recently sent to Arkansas to get an orginal butt plate, Marlin logo emblem, and have the stock refinished.

It was a Christmas present from my Father in 1957, guess I was eleven years old.

J.C. Higgins single-shot .22 from Sears(bolt action feed, manual pull cocking). Mowed lawns till i had $19.95 for it. A lot of barn rats fell to that old tack driver. thanks for the nostalgia.

Those little Marlin over/unders make good first guns. Mine was the same, only a 22 over a 20. Bought it brand new in 1975 for $99.00 including a nice case and a box of 22 ammo and a box of 20 guage shells. Those were the days! Still have it, still use it every year squirrel hunting. And no, it will never leave my hands (at least until I give it to my son).

I'll bet none of you had a first gun like my .410 single shot made by the BRIDGE GUN COMPANY. It was called a GREEN BUG. The stock and fore end are green. It has an 11mm choke. Says so on the barrel. My dad bought it for me when I was 8 yrs old in 1948. Still have it, of course.

Muley; My first was a Bridge gun company 16guage, and I
just bought it at an auction a month or so ago. Was owned
by a local artist, A.O.Henry who got it when he was
younger. (deceased now) His kids sold it at auction.
Just got my second today. A 24" barrel Sako with a
Leopold scope, 30-06. I wonder how old the 16guage is.
Aren't many Bridges around don't think.

My grandpa raised me and gave me a 94 win 30 30 as my first gun. My most recent acquisition is a KAHR MK40. Quite a difference but both fill their niches nicely. What got me was that I hear the Kahr is made by the Moonies. Remember the "would you like to buy a flower" routine? Justin Moon is reportedly one of the Reverend Sun young moons sons. Holy$h#. I love the gun but would really have thought seriously about it if I had known that to start with. Worse than buying a S@W.

First gun - S/S Simson Suhl 12gauge (old gun, quite used - cheapest one on the rack because of a stretched budget).
Bought it to go shooting clay-targets, it was quite okay - hit 16 from 24 the very first time I used it =o)

I love my silenced .22 Anshutz rifle =o) And soon to be Steyr Scout with 10-round ext-set. ;o_

My first gun was a 12 gauge single shot Topper shotgun in 1971. It was given to me by a police officer that I went rabbit hunting with all the time. I still own it but haven't fired it in over 20 years.

My first gun was a Stevens 14 1/2 Little Scout .22 my greatgrandfather gave to me at age 5 with the breach removed. At age 7 he put the breach back in as he assessed that I was mature enough to shoot safely by myself.

Pack slow, fall stable, pull high, hit dead center.

First gun was a Remington model 4 single shot .22 It would misfire half the time and when it did fire it would spit back in your face. Every time I look at it I think of my dad and the Mississippi river.

My first was a Ted Williams .22 single shot rifle. I sawed off the barrel and the stock and made a pistol out of it. What can I say, I grew up in Miami !!

Hey mouse.....Yours is the only other Bridge Gun Company shotgun that I've heard of over the years. I think I remember someone telling me that they were made for a hardware company chain back in Missouri, or thereabouts, a long time ago. Sounds logical, but I don't know for sure.

Mine was a Stevens "Little Scout" 22 Short-Long-Long Rifle, a falling block single shot that my grandfather gave to my dad as his first rifle also ... of course I still have it Second was an H&R single shot 20ga which was destroyed in a fire we had some 20 years ago ... I found another a year or so ago that also had fire damage (what a coincidence!) cleaned it up, refinished re-blued and gave it back to him for his 70th birthday ... although he knew it wasn't the same one, he was pleased.

first gun was a Glock 26...bought it about 8 months ago. I have bought a few different ones since.

Dad gave me a Hi power that I love...wouldnt trade it for the world.

All these stories about guns being passed down bring a tear to my eye. Cant wait for the day I have someone to pass mine down to. Got a ruger 10/22 that i bought not too long ago. Waiting for my girlfriends son to get a little older. That one has his name on it.
