Certain laws restricting certain types of weapons and the import of certain weapons are due for renewal in 2004, meaning they can either be allowed to lapse (sunset) or be renewed. Of course we're all hoping the bans will be allowed to sunset in 2004. Nobody knows yet what will happen, but with this administration and the mood of Congress we may have a shot.

The only thing we can do now is to make sure that we keep writing to our reps and senators and let them know how we ALL feel. With this new hope given us by Ashcroft, I think we might have a good shot. Keep your fingers crossed, a rabits foot in yer pocket, and keep praying and Lord knows...we might actually be able to buy hi cap mags for a 10/22 for $20 again.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but I believe this only applies to the Brady Bill ... I don't think it will have any effect on the '89 Bush Executive Order ban, or Komrad Klintons Executive Order ban of '97 ...

It seems I also remember hearing that Bush has already stated that IF it comes across his desk to make the Brady Bill permanent, he will sign it ... Personally I can't see him NOT sign it or repeal the Klinton or his Dad's bans either ... there are too many votes to loose, even among gun owners

... Remember the old line "READ MY LIPS ..."

Yea, it kinda got me into thinking of selling all my preban stuff before I take a loss. Was thinking of trading in my Preban M4 for an M1A or something.

I just wish I had a dollar for every gun I wanted, then I'd be a rich man.

    Saxon,
I believe the assault weapon ban of 1994 IS Brady ... Brady 1, then in 97 was Brady II with nics.

Konet, that's exactly what I'm saying ... a lot of gun owners don't care about the restrictions of 10 round mags, and in general 922R ... its been going on for 10 years, too many people have grown accustom to it and they don't fully understand it ... and further, they could care less because it doesn't affect them ... only the "assault weapon nuts" (as a owner of AK's, SKS's, M1A's, AR's, HK's & a few Steyr's, I think I'm a member of that group) ... too many people see it as sensible ... They don't see that banning any kind of gun effects us all ... I'm sure hunters didn't think their scoped 25-06 would ever be considered a sniper weapon, but it is by many groups! Heck, a dealer friend of mine was telling me the other day that at least once every couple months he'll sell a gun, the guy is filling out the yellow sheet and asks what is this about domestic violence ... then end up having to back out of the deal cause he cant answer the questions as needed ... he's even had people "forget" about stuff like that because it happened 20+ years ago ... back when you spent the night in jail & paid a fine.

I don't think any of our members are in that crowd, but they are out there ... just look around.

    *EDIT*
Also look at history, any liberty given up in the name of safety/security that we've EVER gotten back? How many TAXES have beed repealed?

Heck, Kansas still has a Turnpike (inter-state toll road) that was supposed to be paid for and free 25+ years ago!

so the skinny on this topic is that the "Assault Weapon" Ban is the one due to sunset in 2004?

I really hope so...I got into this game a bit late and there are a few toys that I would like to get my hands on...without having to pay a premium.
