Just got a flyer from them......is it worth the $2/issue?

I like how they buy their own guns for testing, and have no advertisements........

I used to subscribe and people swear by their reviews but at the time I found it too expensive. I haven't seen one in a while.

I subscribe to Gun Tests and really enjoy reading it. It's not fancy gloss paper and there's no advertisements but they have some good reviews. I don't always agree with their reviews but they are not in the hip-pockets of an advertiser. They buy their own guns and shoot them--period. I just received their FAT 2002 Buyer's Guide. I think it's worth the price of a subscription.

They will say a product "sucks". You won't see that in other mags. You won't see any ads either. That's how they get away with that. Only one of a few I read every month, but I'll re-up again.

Here are some posts from another Forum.

My friend got his new issue of Gun test. In it, it had a review of the KP97. Now, correct me if I'm wrong. The "K" designation in the model number refers to having a stainless steel slide. Now, unless Ruger has changed some thing, the "K" does not refer to whether or not the gun in question has a manual safety. Well, that is what this goof over at this ever irritating rag (I, for one am still P.O.'ed over the Makarov review) think!!! He also gave it only a "conditional buy" rating. This after giving the KP95DC a "best buy"!!!! I don't know where this goofball gets his info, but it seems to be from a cracker jack box or maybe he got it from HCI!!!!! He likes the "new and improved" HS2000 better!!!!!

I dropped my subscription to Gun Tests a few months ago. They had to many inconsistencies in their reporting. Review the same gun twice and it give it two different ratings. I also like the option they offer you to buy the test guns. The price they offer on essentially used guns, most of them I can get around here NIB cheaper.
*************************************************************************************I pretty much lost interest in Gun Tests magazine when one of their writers was complaining about the "thumb rest" in the left grip of a GP-100. He said the gun was obviously set up for right handed people. The dumby evidently didn't know that it wasn't a "thumb rest", it's a cut-out for speedloader clearance, which every decent revolver has had in the left grip panel for about the last 20 years.
BTW, any of you remember the original Gun Tests magazine from back in the late 70's? Now that was a wild bunch of guys**********************************

I use to get it, but stopped also. I just got bored with what was in them, and it seemed to me that they only tested one gun of each type, and made their decision based on that one gun. Thats like hearing one person on here say one bad thing about a Ruger and deciding, yep, its ugly and inaccurate, I'll never buy one. No, I just dont care for the mag., not for me.

I like Gun Tests because it's unbiased reporting. Every other mag. is too likely to have a biased opinion if the gun they are reviewing happens to be made by a company that advertises with them. Still, it's just someones opinion. I don't always agree with them.

I got that same flyer a few days ago. Figured it was just one more magazine to read while work is slow. I did like the way the reviewed the guns with a no B/S approach, but like was said above...its still just another persons opinion.

I subscribed for a year to see what they had to offer. The price is high, but there is no advertising, so they have no vested interest in saying everything is the best thing since sliced bread. On the other hand, in the year, they reviewed two guns that interested me. They look mostly at pistols and I buy mostly rifles so the mag was of little use to me.

I subscribed for a year. If you are in the process of buying guns it is worth the price. Otherwise it is an expensive leisure reading magazine (which is OK too.) I think it is a good magazine but I don't get it anymore as I'm probably finished buying any more firearms. Hey, can I say that here!! :-)

I've gotten the magazine for about 8 yrs and like many folks I dont always agree with their reviews, but if they test a new gun and it falls apart inside of 50 rounds I dont want one. I enjoy reading the reviews on the surplus guns. In the past they have done reviews on everything from hunting ammo to reloading equipment to scopes. I do remember the old Gun Test magazine, it was a blast to read, I remember one writer complaining about all the gay clothing designers that designed the clothes too tight for carrying concealed weapons, you'll never read that in Guns & Ammo.

I subscribe. The magazine can be used to compare to reviews in other
magazines. Still new to the field of weapons collecting and shooting
so it is a good deal for me.

I to subscribe to gun test, I enjoy reading it and the general information that is available. I am a three year subscriber who is about to renew my subscription, they give a big discount if you renew early, well lets say $10.00 buck discount. I keep every issue as I can go back and search a particular firearm. There is only one thing I am concerned about, they may give a product a dont buy, in one issue and seneral months later a great buy rating. I do realize in most cases they are comparing it to another group of firearms, but what about the failure to feed reliably or what ever the problems they reported, its like they forgot what they wrote. But I still like it. I would give it a chance if I were not a subscriber its worth a try.
