I wanted to thank you guys for the advice on which AK to buy. Well, I ended up getting a VEPR II, 20" barrel. I take delivery today. Can't wait. I know it was a tad more expensive than a Romanian but less than many others. Sundowner, thanks for your input and link to the receiver comparison page. It helped in the final decision.

Let the plinking begin.

greetings, i second the sup'rmonk'y, the ak is one of the best all weather rifles on the market. when others are argueing whether it is the action or the ammo, the ak's just keep spiting em out. respt submitted dads-freehold

My favorite thing about the Ak compared to say the M16, it lacks Tyco components.

You gotta try an M1A next...

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

I would love to try an M1A next. But next will be a while. I suppose I could have foregone the VEPR and waited, but....nah, want to do some AK plinking first. I've got a 500 yd range set up in the back yard (since it's a national forest) with no one to complain about me making too much noise.
