Another 9/11 Memorial Service in California

After hearing about all of the crap that is going on in Berkley regarding their memorial for the September 11 attack, I feel compelled to report on part of my day in Fresno, California.

I have gone back to school part-time at California State University, Fresno to pursue a master's degree and I had class today. When the class started, the professor (a Chinese national) solemnly asked the students to observe a minute of silence in remembrance of the attack on America. After a minute or two had passed, he expressed his wish for a quick resolution to the terrorist threat and for those responsible to receive their due. The ensuing lecture ended at 11:45, 15 minutes before the scheduled end of class, at which time the professor encouraged the students to attend the memorial presentation being given on campus at noon. In the "Peace Garden", a stage had been set up and festooned with red, white, and blue bunting and American flags. There was a Fresno Fire Department ladder truck parked nearby and many people in all kinds of uniforms. Some folks were handing out pamphlets with decidedly religious themes unmolested. In short, expressions of patriotism and spirituality abounded and many people had gathered to pay their respects. I wasn't able to stay for the speeches, but I felt good about what was happening at my university.
