What is best breed of dog for deer hunting?

I have hunted deer for over 25 years and always used a beagle. I hunt in Eastern Ontario where it is a mix of open fields, woods, swamp land and your are always close to roads and highways. I run beagles because they have a good sound when tonguing, never run the deer to hard or into another county, better at getting through the thick under brush, not as high strung, no need for radio collars, and best of all you can have them as a house pet. So if there are any other deer hunters out there that can use dogs where they hunt which breed do you prefer to use?

I've never done that, but from the experience I've had watching deer running from dogs, I'd say the best thing to use is a hungry mutt, cause I see a lot of those mutts running deer, and they seem pretty successful at it too.
