Wasp Control - Ortho Home Defense

Here in the Rockies we get a lot of wasps around the buildings, and the outside vehicles/equipment. Many small 2-4 inch nests, nothing like the big hornet nest in the other thread.

In prior years I bought and used many cans of the killer spray, the ones that shoot 10-15 feet (they don't shoot 20 like some say on the can )

Last year I tried a Propane fogger. It was only partly effective,

This year I have used Ortho Home Defense spray, the insecticide you use to make a barrier at thresholds and floors. I always use it across my garage openings.

We have a raised front porch in front of the log house, and that is covered to the ground with wood lattice. The wasps get inside and up in the porch stringers.

Well, after about 2 weeks of treatment, the number is down to maybe 5% of previous years. I have hit them on the fly, and by squirting the nest areas.

The spray goes a long way and is less costly than the spray cans.

I have a bottle of TalstarP, ordered it from www.domyownpestcontrol.com

Mix in a sprayer 1oz per gallon, it doesn't leave any smell or visible residue. I haven't had a wasp build a nest on the fence in a couple of years, earlier in the spring one started a nest by the garage door, but died not long after. Haven't sprayed since last summer/spring.

Suspend, and Demon WP are also great choices.

I have some Demon WP powder mix from Amazon to use on the logs for the Fall fly and box elder invasion. It is a synthetic pyrethoid that is in the Ortho spray. About $8 for enough to make 3 gallons of spray.

An 8 oz bottle of Tempo SC Ultra mixed with 25 to 30 gallons of water.

    Only thing I use.

...in a pinch a can of brake cleaner with the small red tube attached works like a charm. The buggers fall out of the air like ya hit 'em with a shotgun. Only in a pinch though...and watch out for open flames. The results of that can be spectacular...'til the fire department arrives anyway.

Brake clean works well on the carpenter bees too.
