Ruger - Gun Locks in California

I just got my new 10/22 target model. I am in the gun shop in California finishing up things, DROS are done and I'm check out. The guy behind the counter asks me which gunlock I want to buy and I say there is one in the box that comes with the gun. He says well that gunlock is not California approved. Now wouldn't a person think that if Ruger was really into protecting the country by putting a gun locks in every box they would put an approved "Kalif" gun lock in the box? The next question was do you have a gun safe which I did so a little more paperwork certifying that the make and model I was out of there with my new rifle. Oh well the new rifle shoots so fine I cannot believe it!Jim
