Doctor problems

My regular family doctor died in a car/bicycle accident last year and since then I've been seeing another doctor.

Back in September while I was between hospital stays with my problems with abdomen surgery my new doctor scheduled me for a chest X-ray. I completely forgot about the X-ray and never received any results. During my regular check up appointment last week I happened to think about the X-ray and mentioned to the doctor that I never received the results for it. He checked and had this surprised look on his face and said that somehow it had fallen between the cracks and that the imagining centers report said "inconclusive" and was showing shadows and they recommended a CT Scan. That was back last September and here it is 7 months later.

I had the CT Scan done last Friday and I got the results back from my doctor today saying the CT Scan was normal.

I don't trust this guy now so I went and got a copy of the CT Scan on a CD from the hospital and I'm taking it to another doctor just to make sure it is "normal".

It's not a good feeling going to a doctor that you don't trust. He's also one of those doctors that it's nearly impossible to get him to return a call. That whole group of doctors is pretty much just a bunch of dispatchers that send you some where else when you have a problem. Writing prescriptions is their main business.

Looks like I'll be doctor shopping.

I know what you mean. My previous doctor asked me "Still having trouble with the gout?"
Told him I've never had gout.
He looked at the chart, got a puzzled look, and ran out of the room.
    I never went back.
    And he has a Ph.D.!

Finding a good doctor any time and any where is difficult. They are running a small business and it takes alot to cover all the bases.

If you live in a remote area good luck.

I've had a number of screwed up procedural errors which among other problems have put me in a wheel chair five years ago, and for the rest of my life. The latest number I have heard is 1 million deaths in the us per year from medical mistakes. Many more suffer permanent medical problems. A beware !! to all of you.

my doctor told me I was lazy and needed more exercise, I was just tired all time, went to sign up for VA, the young doctor found blockage and and I had a 3 bypass a month later. 1st thing I did when got my liscence back was to go tell off my family doctor and show him my lazy scar....

If you are near Atlanta contact emory university clinic. The Winship cancer center is a collection of Drs from all areas of cancer treatment working together so the types of oversight you described does not happen and this is where I would recommend you start. Call them and let them know you are looking for a second opinion a CT scan and they would be glad to assist.

    Good luck

My problem is not as serious. Not in a wheelchair BUT
I had a total hip replacement in 2006. Dr. was supposed to be a real whiz.
He crippled the s h i t out of me.

Many times I wished he'd died in a car/bicycle accident.

Doctors know who the bad ones are within the medical world, but wont police themselves. The reported medical deaths would drop, probably considerably, if they policed

We are fed lot of propaganda by the medical world, how in the hell can you believe half of it. If you pick one and they turn out to be legal quacks cause you a permeant disability, doesn't matter if a law suit is a results---you are still a mess and all the money in the world is not equal to a active healthy life.

We've got several of those here at our local hospital.
I've come to the conclusion I'd rather drive to Emporia with a broken leg than go local.
My last time there was in '14. Went in Saturday with intense pain across my lower back all the way down to my heels. Both my knees hurt so bad I could barely stand. So called dr diagnosed me with a rectal infection totally ignoring the fact my knees were swollen. Next morning I couldn't even get up to go pee. Both knees swollen damn near big as volleyballs.
There's some damnable poop goes on there.

My first test for a new doctor is to wait until he's done the ear, nose, throat check and ask him how my tonsils looked. I had mine taken out when I was a little kid and you'd be surprised how many of them have responded with "they look fine".

However I have learned over the years to be my own strong proactive advocate and to be informed and involved in my care...

I feel sort of stupid complaining about my doctor problems when Mr. Mike is struggling so much more with his terrible problems with cancer.

Anyway you are absolutely right Mr. Mike. I should have have followed up on my X-ray the next day myself. But, in my defense I was readmitted to the hospital that same night because of an infection in my abdomen due to the surgery I had just went through where they removed approx one foot of my large intestine due to a blood clot that caused gangrene to set in. After 3 more days in the hospital fighting the infection I completely forgot about the chest X-ray when I was released to go home.
