Screw Brownells !

I bought a book on February 25th (American Sniper hardcover)from Brownells and they charged me $7.95 shipping. You would think that it would be here by now. Why would they give it to UPS and then tell them to give it the local Post Office? For $7.95 they should have shipped it Priority Mail or Media.

UPS transfers things to the USPS for final delivery all of the time.

My theory is that a Mailbox is something for which there are federal laws that penalize tampering. Leaving a book on the doorstep does not have that protection.

Looks like the book will be delivered today or tomorrow. 5 days for under $ 8.00? Not a bad deal, really.

It's been 9 days since I paid for the book.
It won't be delivered today, that's not my Post Office, best I can hope for is Saturday.

The last time I ordered from Brownells they charged me $15.95 for two items that together weighed less than 2 lbs. and I'm less then 300 miles away from them.

I have ordered from Brownells for years now but what I mention above kinda pisses me off. I just placed an order from Midway for 2 items that combined weigh more then the above order Midway charged me only $9.19. I also know that they will give it to UPS and it will end up coming from the postal service. That I can handle, I just don't know what is up with Brownells and their recent upsurge in shipping charges. Brownells could have sent my previous order by Priority mail for about $7. They charged me more then double of what it actually cost them to ship. Midway is more then twice the distance from me as Brownells is and they are shipping a heavier package, and thats how shipping charges are determined.

    Screw Brownells?

How is Brownells responsible for what UPS does?

Brownells took 5 days to get it in the mail.

IMO, if a company can not get items out within 24 hours, they need to hire enough help to make that happen.

That UPS/USPS handoff does often add a day to some deliveries.

......and then there is the ice.

Brownell's has excellent customer service. I have dealt with them for 25+ years and have always had issues resolved quickly to my satisfaction.

Did you know that the shipping cost $7.95? And you said yes?

For me, life is too short to worry about such things.

If I need something in a hurry, I pay for next day or second day shipment. If not, I don't get too worked up about how long something takes.

Shipping is so cheap today, that I continue to be amazed at how fast something can be transported from one place to another at such a low cost.

I believe that his point is that he paid a sufficient amount to get his book to him in 2 days.

USPS 2 day is about $5.

Sitting on his money for 5 days before shipping is the worst part of the delay, IMO.

I just got off the phone with Brownells and explained my situation to then about the excessive shipping charges. The customer service rep. explained to me that because I ordered some aluma hyde II that they had to ship it UPS ground. Aluma Hyde II is a orm-d commodity just like shipping ammo. The problem I have with that is that it doesn't cost any more to ship it then other merchandise. The only other thing that they have to do is put an orm-d label on the box. Just can't believe that UPS would charge $16 to ship a two pound box 300 miles. Had I not ordered the Aluma Hyde II the shipping would have been $7.95. And I'm pretty sure it would have come by UPS as well. So I guess they are charging me $8 to put a label on the box.

I also told them there was an internet thread on GB in regards to them and that one member in particular was pissed that he had been waiting for merchandise for over a week.

SHE WAS COMPLETELY UNAWARE OF GB how in this day and age could that happen especially when you work in a firearms related field.
She had no clue how GB even worked.[xx(][xx(][xx(]

Brownells was good to me the last time I ordered. I had to back order Aluma Hyde II in Coyote and Magpul FDE. They shipped the first one that came in and then only charged me half price on the second color plus no shipping on the second delivery. This was without any inquiry.

I have had the same situation where one of the items they shipped me had to go through an FFL. They only charged me shipping on the FFL item and the stuff that came to my home was shipped free. I have no problems with Brownells as a whole and they're great to do business wise but I just can't get past that $15.95 shipping fee.

Many folks don't seem to realize there is more to shipping expenses than just the actual postage or UPS charge.

I use AMAZON PRIME and check on the cheap shipping option. By doing so it adds a buck to my KINDLE book account. I read great books free all the time. I average 2-3 Amazon orders per week.

So because this book is taking a little longer than you wanted, you say SCREW the entire company? Have you SEEN weather conditions across the country?

I ship stuff almost every day and I know exactly what it costs to ship and the expenses involved. I've got accounts set up with UPS, Fed/Ex and the Post Office. Tell me about it and I have to take it some where to ship it. They don't come to me like UPS comes to Brownells. I have to get boxes and buy tape and shipping materials just like they do.
With all the crap I've given away here I've never paid anywhere near $16 to ship.

It took them 5 days to ship and has been, as of tomorrow, in my area 3 days!
It came across the Country in only 2 days.

Miday is worse in one way, they charge and arm and a leg for shipping, BUT, it is usually here in two to three days. I don't order from them anymore because of the shipping cost. I ordered two screws from them for a gun, screws 3.15, shipping= 5.99. I ordered them from ebay. Screws 1.28, shipping= free.

It's called Surepost, bet you could have paid a couple of extra bucks for Ground shipping. Consumers need for the cheapest shipping possible is what made products like Surepost and FedEx Smartpost possible. I expect to see a swing back into standard Ground shipping soon, as people complain about transit times.

Hate that Surepost crap. So I waste a bunch of time being forced to sign up with a UPS account only to find out I still can't just go to UPS to get my damn package before it gets handed off to Post Office for another few days. Looks like a 2 week wait when other stuff arrives in 0-3 days

No wonder it took them so long to ship, they didn't have the advertised book.

The last year and a half, I've had more problems with shipping than I ever had all other years altogether. They lost my daughter's Christmas/birthday box a year ago Christmas, took 4 months to get paid for being insured. I've had a package take over a week to go 2 hrs from me. I had a m/o get ripped in half. Half went back to me, half to the other person. I know I've had a couple other occurrences, but the last one a couple months ago, they lost a package, put a trace on it. Got a response that it probably went to some lost package location. Tried doing a follow up and it showed the case was closed(?) Didn't know how or if I could try to figure out what or how to try to find it than. And than, it showed up a month and a half later. I guess at least I got it.

Niner, not sure why you would buy books from Brownell's. While I do like them they are not necessarily the first choice for books at the best prices.

Amazon tops the list and you will find some surprisingly esoteric titles offered.

If you need to go further afield or do a little price comparison try searching at http://www.bookfinder.com/

I would bet it has more to do with profit margin. It is likely a lot cheaper for UPS to ship a town's worth of packages to the local post office and pay for local USPS delivery than it is to actually distribute with their own people/infrastructure. Classic out-sourcing/sub-contracting, it's all about the money. [:D]

I'm expecting a package that originated in San Diego. What I don't fully understand is how they save time and money sending a package around the world three times to move it twenty miles, but they say if we understood logistics and the "hub" system we would see how it's economical. They are in the business of making money so I guess they know what they're talking about.

My San Diego package went from San Diego to Hodgkins, IL and back to San Diego then to Hodgkins, IL. They must have saved almost a week with that trick.
The road to hell is paved with COMPROMISE.

I can see that work with smaller towns but I live in a metro area of 1.5 million and they still do it. I'm pretty sure the Midway order I have coming this week will arrive the same way. UPS & USPS have major hubs only a few blocks apart here. I have a UPS truck on my block every day Monday - Friday and yet they still do it.
