Tel Aviv, Israel-AP -- Former President Clinton says Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat missed a "golden opportunity" to make peace with Israel.Clinton was referring to a framework for peace he proposed during his last days in office a year ago.The plan called for the establishment of a Palestinian state in most of the West Bank and Gaza -- and limited control in areas of east Jerusalem.Clinton told an audience that watched him get an honorary doctorate from Tel Aviv University that while it may seem impossible today, the proposals remain the "outlines of a reasonable settlement."They were accepted in principle by Israel's then-premier Ehud Barak (EH'-hud bah-RAHK'). But the Palestinians held out for more.Clinton called the violence and terrorism that followed "a terrible mistake." But he also warned Israel that "there will not be a military victory."

Ya know, as much as I hate that lying POS, this once he is correct: that was the best deal the Palestinians could have hoped for. Maybe they expected Gore to win & give them more?

I think it's a wonderful idea. Just go on and give the Palestinians the land, the status of a sovreign nation, and make them officially a country. Then, the next time the little * heads come across the border and blow up a bus full of kids, its officially an act of WAR, and Israel can once and for all blow them off the map like they really want to but WE keep preventing....Perfect solution!

Yassar Arafat and his little band of terrorists aren't interested in a Palestinian homeland. What they really want is the total elimination of Israel. The gloves are off now and throwing rocks at tanks ain't going to get it done.

The palestinians have rejected nation status on several occasions since 1948 when Israel was established as a nation. They are not interested in becoming a nation, they are interested in the annihalition of Israel. After all isn't that what their Muslim faith is intent on doing to all those that do not conform to their tenets. If one reads the scriptures, one can know how it will end, the victory for Israel will come when God fights for them. The disturbing part about this isn't necessarily the part or mileage that Klinton was trying to get out of the peace process, (after all he, is still trying to find a legacy that he can hang his hat on at his library) but that the Jews here and abroad are even interersted in hearing him speak or even what might be his opinion, on this subject, Klinton never did anything about terrorists while he had the opportunity. Even his secretary of defense, who was directly responsible for the deaths of our soldiers in Somalia, was totrally ignorant of military, skills, tactics or knowledge. But then again his whole staff were made up of hippy era draft dodgers. Arafat isn't even worth mentioning anymore. He's fallen off his tightrope and the * has hit the fan. He's a non-factor in this now. He's too moderate for the rank and file Palestinian fanatics, he's viewed as weak by the other Muslim states, and he has lost control of his own forces. And since mass suicide to prove one's point seems to be big in the Islamic world these days, I hope these particular regional idiots succeed in killing themselves. Because every time a suicide bomber attacks Israel in the midst of a peace talk or cease fire, the Palestinians bring themselves one step closer to extinction.
