I'm looking for a 357 mag, small/medium frame, 3 inch barrel, 6 rnd revolver. Who can tell me what to look for? I can't find anything new with a 3 inch barrel. Do you know who's made a 3" recently?ThanksMike

I think S&W still makes the 686 .357 revolver; but it may be a 7-shot and 2.5" barrel if those things are critical to you.

I have a S&W 686 with a 6" barrel. It was affordable and shoots like a dream. I simply love it. I believe you can get them with a 4" barrel. It depends upon your purpose which you have not stated.

I think the smallest frame would be the smith&wesson 66

Im with you Richie Rich, the Ruger GP100 is built much stronger than any Smith, cheaper also. I have seen several used GP's with 3"barrels recently for just over $200. Im fixing to get me one to go with my 4".

Wasn't the SP101 a small frame .357, or am I plain wrong? Also, I think Charter Arms just came out with a lightweight .357 with some of the Pug characteristics, in stainless.

Smith & Wesson still manufactures the model 65 K frame in 3" with round but. If you go to the 4" you can only get it in square but. I have had one for years, and if you can use combat sights, that is the way to go. It has the heavy barrel and is a .357

offeror; the SP101 is a 5 shot revolver

Ruger --So is the Charter Pug. But people have stretched the parameters a lot farther than that in these requests for input. We've got people recommending entirely different configurations of gun on other threads. This seems like a minor detail by comparison. Frankly, I'm not sure one will find a true "small" frame .357 in a six-shot cap cylinder. I think he'll have to go medium frame to get six in a magnum. I could, as usual, be wrong.

Thanks everybody. Especially, offeror, steve45, smokewagon, leeblackman, william81, and mcneely77. Some of you were talking about small frames which I guess are all 5 shots, but I want 6 and a 3" for power and the ability to carry. i may check out the GP100 too, richierich. (but I thought they were big)So, I think I'll shop for a S&W 65 or 66 and see what I come up with. I'm in IN and we've 2 big shows coming up in a few weeks, so I may do some good.Y'all take care. More later.

offeror; I would bet money that you are right about a medium frame.
