I have a Galco ankle holster. I have carried my Beretta 84f in it but I like the Colt Gov't Model .380 pocketlite better beacause of the slimmer profile. It seems to work very well. I have used it on the street and in the woods but to be honest I have not tried it running. I should but so far I haven't. You have to wear pants that hide the profile down there. Dress pants are definitely a plus. Hope this helps. Good luck.

When I am jogging or in case someone has a bigger gun than I have and when mine is empty. All excellent reasons for running don't you think. Lol.

Actually, this is a pretty good discussion and not just for ankle holsters. Some holsters seem fine when we're just walking, sitting & standing still but you're bound to be a lot more active if something is coming down on you, and once you start bobbing, weaving, or running for cover you may find your favorite holsters letting you down. All it would take to defeat some holsters is for a shirt tail to pop out or a clip to lose grip on a belt, and those carrying without a holster at all are liable to find their gun down in their briefs someplace. As for the ankle holster, it's very subjective. Some holsters are more secure than others, some will slide down onto your shoe or spin on your leg, or bang against your other leg. Then there's the question of whether the feeling annoys you or not, which is purely personal. Get a good stable one, make sure it's secure, wear it inside the leg on your weak hand side and practice standing with legs apart, pulling up the inner calf pant leg with the weak hand and drawing with the strong hand. Anyway, that's my four cents.

Tried a couple. Didn't like 'em. Got no reason to carry there anyway. (Sour grapes?)If you're gonna' carry there....practice, practice, practice. The move to retrieve isn't something you can just "do".Mudge the klutz

Instead of going through gymnastics, fighting a pants cuff and going off balance to get at your ankle holster you can Velcro your fly and access a Thunderwear holster all the while looking the bad guy(s) in the eye(s).

A good ankle holster works fine if you pull your sock over it. The sock gives extra support and helps conceal the gun if your pants ride up.

LMAO,,,,,,,,v35 and idsmanI'm a woman!!,,,,,I think that idea would get me some strange looks!!!!!!I don't carry a purse, so I was looking for something "workable" to conceal in the summertime. Y'all have mentioned some points , both good and bad, that has been most helpful.Maybe I should ask what is a good concealment method for a woman?

That's a tougher question because women often like to wear form-fitting outfits, head to toe. The summer doesn't necessarily lend itself to long pants, either. One of the correct answers is, dress for the gun. We have to make some compromises with clothing at times in order to carry concealed. That's why you'll see some men in Hawaiian shirts that don't seem the type. One of the deepest concealment holsters is a good IWB, or Inside the Waistband. If you wear one of these all you need worry about is the grip which extends above the belt -- a hanging, loose shirttail should cover it, and you can wear one of these clipped anywhere on your belt -- sometimes the best spot will be near the small of the back, or near the belly, rather than on the side. These can become uncomfortable for some people after a period of wear.I have heard of good high-riding belt holsters being made for women with narrow waists that fit better than a man's holster.Another decent choice for summer is the bellyband, a wide stretchy band with velcro closure that has a holster stitched in, and sometimes an extra mag holder as well. Obviously these are made to go under your clothes wrapped on your body. You can get creative with these, wearing them high, medium or low on the body to match your mode of dress. Then of course you have to figure out how you're going to get to the gun when you need it. One problem -- with activity, the elastic can tend to spit the gun out of the holster. I have thought of adding a thumbreak strap to see if that would work.A third summer choice is a good fanny pack, and some are made with holsters built in and either zipper or velcro access. I found a fairly small brown one at my last gun show that doesn't scream "gun bag!" The right sized belt-looped camera holder works about as well. You could use any other fashionable item you like and customize it a bit. Another great choice for when you're not wearing a belt is a good high riding paddle holster, again covered by a loose hanging shirttail or light jacket. Paddle holsters like the Safariland leather job I have stay in place pretty well and distribute the weight so that they will actually stay in place when the waistband is giving fairly little support. SOB (Small of Back) holsters are nice in theory, and I have a few, but they're not very good for sitting (they hurt the spine unless they're offset to one side or the other) and if your shirt or jacket rides up to reveal the gun, chances are you won't notice it for a while. SOBs are really better for heavier coats that have little chance of climbing up above the gun with activity. Not only that, I have yet to find an SOB holster that really rides much higher on the belt than many belt holsters unless you're talking a long-barrelled gun.

Fanny packs! Lots of people wear them, and they make them just for carry. I've carried a 380 AMT Backup in an Uncle Mike's Ankle holster for years. It's always in the same place when I get home at night as it was when I left in the morning.

Both Mrs. Mudge and I use fanny packs during the summer. They're slightly different in design 'cause they're from different manufacturers but both give easy access. You still need to practice your draw from whatever type you choose. The draw should be reflexive.Mudge the prepared
