Talking about southerner's...to follow up on nunn's thread.....what states are consider "southerner".....if your state is not , what do you consider yourself........this may sound a little nuts,,,but I've heard some pretty "northerner" states say they were from the "south"...............so what's your state considered???????????? *

Flarda is southern...but about 80% of the people are from the north, with a heavy percentage being from the urban northeast...So when you meet some di(khead with a Flarda tag, remember where he is really from..and don`t hold it against us!!.218

Well, *. To put it bluntly, the North sucks. All the country and western songs are southern. All the beer drinking, women chasing, smoke filled bar, party in the hay field songs are southern. You always hear of southern pride, never northern pride. You think of churches, there's the bible belt.I don't blame the northern states for wanting to be southern. But there's a drawback. Think of the South as America and the North as a foreign country. The foreigners love our way of life so the want to move here, then they want to bring their values and ideas that made their country a hell hole, and make us change to their standards. I think they need to change to our way of life or go home.OK everyone chastise me, but it's just the way I see things.

jeeneyes-i dont belive most northers want to be southern any more than southerners want to be northeners but in many states like texas and florida the economy has been booming for years and those yanks' just go where the jobs are, a dollar goes farther in texas than it does in massachusetts as an example and alot of people like the warmer wheather and without question the south has much better looking women.

hunting in the north is limited, so of course deer will be bigger, and besides therea are too many rednecks here in the south that will shoot a buck before it matures just to shoot a buck.

hunting is still legal in PA and NY?

Actually, I read that Pennsylvania sells the most hunting licenses of any state. If you have to live in the North, probably the best state to live in is Pennsylvania. I remember looking at a map that had the states color coded by the degree of difficulty in getting a "concealed carry" permit. It was funny seeing PA sticking out like a sore thumb among all of the "no way you gonna get a license to carry", Northern states.

salzo, you know better than i do i am sure but i would put money that says TX sells 2 times as many hunting liscenses than PA, we have a much larger pro-hunting, pro-gun community as we didnt vote for Gore. if hunting was so immportant in PA why are there hardly any pro-gun politicians in that state? your former Gov. Tom Ridge is a well known anti-gun guy even though hes a Republican. like i said if you read that i cant deny you didnt but i would say there is no way there are more hunters in PA than in TX-note even close

JDB- Ill see if I can find out where I read that.As far as the politicians are concerned you are right. They can hardly be called pro-gun. However, when you consider the other bordering states, PA is certainly better than the states around PA.For example, the Senators of PA rate a C on the GOA score card. That is nothing to brag about, but when you consider all of the other Senators in the surrounding areas(Ny, DE,NJ, OH,CT,MA,etc) getting F-s, PA is pretty good, all things considered. Also, it should be noted that Pennsylvania has the second highest NRA membership in the country. Second only to California.

salzo, i just looked it up and you might be right, TX has the 2nd larget hunting population in the US according to licenses sold-i stand corrected on that point, i belive you are correct about PA having more. also i cant belive Cali has more NRA members than any other state, i guess because we are so conservative{are gun rights arent in danger}here in TX we dont feel the need to join any gun-right groups.[This message has been edited by jdb123 (edited 04-08-2002).]

Funny thing about this state is it is very divided, half of the state is anti gun and the other half is progun. Hunting is a very big deal up here, and PA does boast the largest deer herd on the east coast and we have the hunters to prove it. There are gun stores all over the place, but not a big supply of the so called assault rifles, more high powered rifles and handguns. CCW's are shall issue with NO TRAINING, just a signature is all you need here. The part of the state I live in is very southern natured, bunch of good 'ol boy's here. Like I stated before, you need a 4x4 pickup, not a yuppy wagon to join the country club and social status is decided by the size of your tires. No offense intended here Salzo, but when you go past I81, this state changes big time. If you call the folks from this side of the state Yankees you're liable to get shot but if you go east of here they call us a bunch of hicks. It's not a bad place to be, very easy going state and nothing like the states north of here.

jdb123- Oh and as far as PA voting for Gore. Remember that we have two large cities Philly and Pittsburgh. The only reason GOre won in this state, was because Philadelphia had over 99 percent voter turn out. In case you do not realize this, that is an absurd statistic. There was some serious ballot stuffing going on in Philadelphia. Gore won only three counties in this state, and if there was no illegal ballot stuffing going on in Philly, he would have lost.

JDB- California has alot of people in that state. I am sure precentage wise, the amount of NRA members in that state vs non NRA members is non existent. They just have so many people there to begin with.

I read a year ago,and I boubt it has changed, that Pennsylvania has more deer hunters per sqare mile than any state in the USA...followed by West Virginia.Texas is vast, with a lot of unpopulated area,therefore...well you get the picture..218

i have truly underestimated the great state of PA. if TX ever desides to invade a northern state we will pass on our brothers from PA and go up to.........Maryland we need more coastline property anyway.lol

Maryland would be easy to take. Aint a gun anywhere in that state without a trigger lock on it.

Salzo,99 percent voter turn out!!They are a fine examle for the rest of us!!Can you imagine the lines they had to wait in,just to "Rock The Vote",as they say on MTV.HA,HA,HA!!!.218

218-Yup 99 percent turn out in Philly. It is amazing that the National media never reported that. All you heard about was how the Republicans were trying to steal Florida. Never heard about how the Democrats were stuffing the boxes in Philly. Next election, I am going to see if I can volunteer to monitor one of the Philly precints. The Republican party does not exist in Philly, so they have nobody to monitor what is going on in the precints.

I'm a yankee born and bred in the state of NY and spent all my military service in the sunny south and plan to retire to the carolinas or VA. This is for the weather not because NY's stand on gun control because I now own over 85 guns 9 of which are handguns. gun ownership in NY is no problem as long as you ain't a criminal, then it's easier!I love the south and the people down there but I have over 20 years at this job and can't leave the north right now.......

Please help me as I'm getting confused. I live in Ks. on an acreage so I can shoot out my back door if I want. I see big deer and turkeys everyday. My family originally came from Kentucky but I had two great grandfathers that fought for the North. Kansas is right in the middle of the country, not North or South or East or West. Am I a Southerner or a d@mn yankee? To make it more confusing I was born here 63 years ago, raised here, as was my whole family. Does'nt that make me a native American or am I just some other type of Hyphenated-American? Being born here makes me feel (Native)P.S. My name is a neutral color, I like vanilla ice cream and my favorite color is plaid.
