RIP Ben.
It's simply unreal to me... How a few bucks could make someone want to kill.
Ben's death is a tragedy... And the fact that the state took away his ability to protect himself.
Is downright political stupidity... and a travesty. I've said in the other thread...
This sort of crime should NOT have happened...
I remember a similar killing with southgeorgiaivory's Dad a while back (IIRC) ... Simply wrong.
I've read the article about Ben several times since he was shot...

Yes,...it stinks all the way around, plus I don't get it either.
Then again, I don't do crack, meth or any other illegal drugs.
I realize he was living in a state where he could not protect himself fully, and I also know that bars can be dangerous places to frequent,.....much less work.
All we can hope for is that somehow they find this freak before he kills someone else, and to remember to pray for Ben's family, and loved ones that are missing him now.[V]

Well said. I did not know he was that young either.
RIP.
Benjamin Newton, 33, was killed while working at Toasters Pub, at 7:40 p.m. on March 18. Services for the Mattoon native were Saturday.
Police have questioned a person of interest, but have made no arrests.
Newton was working a two-hour shift for a friend at the bar when he was shot on the bridge of the nose, officials say. No patrons were present at the time of the shooting, however police questioned several people who were inside the pub prior to the shooting.
Newton, the son of Bill and Liz Newton, was a 1997 graduate of Mattoon High School and earned a marketing bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University in 2001. Newton worked fulltime as an insurance agent under Dimond Brothers for 10 years and had worked parttime at Toasters for about a year, his family says.
He was active with the Knights of Columbus and served as the organization's Tootsie Roll fundraiser chairman.
