First, make sure that you are logged in. If you're not logged in, you won't see the edit and delete icons. Then, go to the post you want to delete. Look along the top of your post. The furthest right icon (sheet of paper and trashcan) is the one you want. Click on it to delete your post. That should do it fer ya.

When you open up a thread and look at a post that you made, do you see five icons along the top border of your post? If you are only seeing three, you are either not logged in or you don't have your cookies enabled (that last is just a guess, some of the more 'puter literate types here should be able to tell you if cookies could be causing your problem.)
Where you just tried to delete your post, you clicked on the "reply with quote" icon. You need the "sheet of paper and trashcan" icon to delete a post.
Edit -
Oops, we were posting at the same time. I don't think that with the new format that we can delete whole threads, even if we started them.

If you do not have cookies enabled you will have to log in each session. To check and see if cookies are enabled go to the top of your browser and click TOOLS, scroll down to INTERNET OPTIONS and click, then click on the PRIVACY TAB. In the window you will see a slider bar that will allow you to adjust the settings for cookies, the lowest settings will allow all cookies to be saved and the highest setting will prevent all cookies. Set it to medium, GB cookies will be saved.
The cookies are like constasnt power to your car radio, after you shut the car off the radio turns off but the clock and channels stay right. The cookies allow your computer to "remember" certain things like login info so when you return to a page you stay logged in, they also make page loading faster. The cooies are stored in temp internet files folder, you can go back to TOOLS/INTERNET OPTIONS and on the GENERAl tab about half way down you will see TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES, click on SETTINGS and VIEW FILES and you can scroll thru there and see what cookies are in your system. You can also adjust the settings on the temp files there. The temp files work in a way like cookies, if you notice on the forum the topics turn blue after you view them and stay blue, if you clear out all of the temp files they turn black again like you never seen them, this is another way for the computer to "remember" the pages you view for faster load times when you return to the pages. It is also a great place to look to see where the kids or anybody has been with your machine, you can set it to clean out the files after so many days or each time you close the browser, that is up to you. If you have been to a sight that puts pop ups on your screen alot and goofy things start happening with your web browser it is a good idea to go and delete all temp files and cookies, alot of times this will fix buggy browsers.
Sorry for the long post.
