Hello Everyone. This is my first time on the forum, and I wanted to say Hi, and that I enjoy everyone's questions and answers. Very interesting and informative. It appears that there is a very diverse, and intelligent group of enthusiasts out there. I was hoping I could locate Greg from Indianapolis, in reference to a Springfield '03 with the barrel stamping Waffen-Krausser-Munchen on it. I saw his name and questions regarding same on another firearm- related web site dated 01-13-01. Greg, if you are out there somewhere, or if anyone out there might know who he is, I would really like to talk to you about your rifle, and about another one like it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks-Squaw Dog.

What is the date on the bbl? Munchen is a town in Germany, I believe there was a "proving ground" of sorts there.

Thanks for your reply @anubis@, and sorry for my delay, but am at work right now, and can't spend too much time on computer. There is no barrel date, as the rifle has been sporterized, but the receiver is 1921 vintage, and I'm pretty sure bbl is either original, or still of Springfield manufacture. I thought customizing was performed in Munich, but had questions as to the "Waffen-Krausser" part. Any ideas as to whether this was a gunshop or an individual?Unit has a nice hand-checkered Monte Carlo stock, jeweled nickel-steel bolt/recurved handle, with Lyman Tru-Lok scope mounts and rings, and a Weaver K-4. It shoots very well also. Any other input you might have would be very much appreciated. Thanks again.-Squaw Dog.

Munchen is what Germans call "Munich."Waffen-Krausser is a gunsmith/gun shop that has been around since 1881, and is still in business today. Many German and Austrian gunsmiths created fantastic custom rifles on Mauser and Springfield actions after WW-2. Value would be what someone is willing to pay for it, and is affected by the serial number range of the Springfield action. Here is the maker's current contact inf:Waffen Krausser GmbH & Co. THANK YOU AntiqueDr. I have been trying to obtain that information for a long time. Value of said rifle was not a concern-it is more of an heirloom from a deceased relative that no-one knew anything about. It is not viewed as a collectible or show piece. It is a frequent shooter and hunting rifle. I was just trying to track down a little history on it to see if I could trace the path it took to get where it is now. Will contact the company at earliest convenience to see if they have a record of it and what kind of information they can provide me. Am even willing to pay a research fee. Hell, I would have paid YOU a fee to provide me with that information! Anyway, thanks again. You made yourself a new customer and referral source.-Squaw Dog
