Question for Varmit Hunter and anyone else

Coyote hunting time is approaching,I dont like to kill them when they have pups unless they are causing someone a problem.Any way its become one of my favorite varmits to hunt.I use the distressed rabbit with a decoy, and late August or so Ill use the pup call.Ive been lucky enough to make enough kills to keep me Hunting. But I have missed out on more kills than Ive made and I know its because they have smelled me.I was discussing this with a bunch of the guys and the majority said mask your scent, use skunk scent to mask yours. My question here is if you use skunk to mask your scent, will that not alert the coyote theres some type of danger in the area to make the skunk spray its defense.I truly believe it alerts Deer when used and I have proved that to myself. But with Deer you can use a variety of scents to attract or mask your scent.I thought about using Fox urine and see how it works. But rather learn by trial and error I would love to have some one that knows tell me.So what do you think about using skunk scent, and could you also tell me about the fox urine? I sure would appreciate some tips on hunting coyote,Ive looked for books but cant find any.I would appreciate any of you guys sharing your knowledge and experience.Ive learned alot over the years but I sure have alot more to learn. Thanks in advance.

Best!

Rugester, Mix 33%rabbit urine,33% coyote urine, And 33%water. Pour into a mister bottle. The finer the mist the better. Use it before you call, And while you are calling. The most imprtant thing, Is to try and set up were they can't come down wind.

We spent two years making a predator calling video. It covers all aspects of calling. If you are interested contact me at rrobison@gt.rr.com.
PS I know the above mixture adds up to 99%. Add 1% Bud light.
In the winter use 1% Jack Daniels.

You can use rabbit blood to mask you too.Pop a rabbit and bleed him into a container and pour it in a circle around you. They might pick up alittle smell from you but they will be jonesing for that blood.Grim but better than spraying urine on yourself.

You spray the urine in the air, Not on yourself. You have to go home sometimes, And trust me you wont get to stay to long, If you spray yourself.

Get yourself a Black Mouth Cur and train it to bring the yotes in to you. They may halt at a certain distance, but if the dog is well trained, it will go back towards the yote and try to get it to keep coming in.

I usually try to stay down wind of them but Ive noticed over the years they seem to circle before they will attempt to come in to my decoys. And they will circle over and over on the pup whelps, yelps and cries.I have a guy that says there troubling his calfs, and he bought a * to put in with the herd. They say they will keep a coyote or dog from killing your cattle. But the jack was troubling his Heifers to death, chasing and biting them,so he got rid of the jack.He wants me to eliminate them, said I could get in the barn loft and hunt. That might eliminate my need for as much scent control. Thanks for the information.

As far as planting your scent around...I put a couple of cotton balls in an empty 35mm film cannister, then pour the masking scent onto the cotton. You can keep the lid on when not in use and keep the potion from spilling. When you want to set out a scent grenade, just pop the top and set it a few feet away. Two or three of these will cover your scent, and are easy to carry and control.

Been using tampons, and hanging them from branches. etc.
Make great, simple, cheap boot drags.
    Ez to find.
    Store in film cannisters.

Oh for those who need "extra help", buy new-unused ones.

    G&G,
I love it. Tampons come with their own hangers already attached.
But I do pity the guy that walks through as sees you removing the tampons from the tree. He's probably never seen a tampon tree or anyone picking the fruit from one. Just tell him your going to make a pie.

You might also try some red or grey fox urine as a cover. I understand that coyotes prey on them. DO NOT get it on you though, as Varmit says you will not stay at home long.
