Hypothetically speaking if a person had an ar15 and was also in possession of the parts necessary to make it full auto (auto sear, bolt, selector, trigger) how would one go about getting a permit for the parts namely the auto sear of which he or she already has in possession (hypothetically speaking of course) would it be ok to install these parts in more than one weapon? Or would it have to be designated to a sole weapon? Also would it be better to just go through a class 3 dealer and purchase an auto sear (howbeit they are kind of steep) was also wondering in this hypothetical question would you also have to register the weapon with the batf or just the parts.

I believe the tax stamp is for the gun, not parts. Possesion of the parts without a gun, is just parts. Call ATF and they will give you the direct information.

Auto sears all by themselves are classified as NFA firearms.

Auto sears are NFA items and would have to have been registered at the time of manufacture. Then they could be transferred according to NFA rules and regs.

i understand that auto sears are classified as NFA firearms. that i know i want to know how to regester one if you already own it ( i understand that one could call the batf) but would they go balistic on someone for owning an "illeagle auto part" then after it is regestered do you also have to regester the weapon (AR15) thanks again
