i have been looking at some used winchester mod 70s thinking i could find a reasonable priced used rifle to kill my gun buying urge for a while :-)
man for what they are priced at i'm just going to spend a few more bucks and get a new one. seems to me like some guns are way over priced esp for taking a chance on buying a gun with out being able to handle it and give it a good looking over first, man what some people rate a gun as very good to excellent i would call by looking at the picture as beat to hell. i carry a rifle in my pickup everyday and dont have a gun that is beat as bad as some guns i have seen for auction right at 150.00 from new price.

Have to agree with you cowdoc. The really good deals are kind of rare sometimes but even so that only makes it that much sweeter when you do finally get the one that you've been waiting for. I get almost as big a thrill out of hunting these pages for the best possible deal as I do when I actually get to use the new addition to the collection. Hang in there, patience is usually rewarded.

What kills me, is when new guns are priced much higher than any place that I can go to locally. I am going to pay more for a gun, pay shipping, and then pay my FFL to accept a rifle that I cant even handle before I buy? Fugedddaboudit.

Winchester Model 70's, pre 64, have gotten totally out of hand, price wise. Glad I acquired mine back in the 60's and early 70's. Did not realize I was getting such a bargin at that time.

if you are in no hurry just wait around you'll find one at a good price but as you said you take a chance when you buy without seeing it first but any good dealer will let you have at least a three day inspection of the item email them if they don't don't buy. be wary when it is decribed as very good to exelent, but you have to buy "as is"
