Just about finished with my Scout rifel. Enfield No4 with barrel cut down to 16 1/4 inches. And Bushnell red dot scope. This thing is cool. Hope to try it out next weekend now that Select-fire has a boat. We need a boat to get to where the hogs are. If we get one just might have to have anothe shoot. Maybe call it The Appliance shoot monster truck mudd bogg tractor pull hog roast * dog jamborre.

I wanna go. I'm in NC, what's the farthest I'll have to go to find some (counting on finding some land or something to hunt). Can I do it on public land if I'm from out of state? I see hogs are a big problem, and I wanna make the world a better place one round at a time. [:D]

There comes a time in every man's life when he wants pork. That time is now!

Where can I go for fair chase hog hunts, without spending several thousand dollars? Guided would be nice, but not nice enough for two grand.

I'd be looking for a two-man hunt, open to all weaponry (except a knife--I'm not that hardcore), and any kind of hogs. Help would be appreciated, especially first-hand experience. Thanks.

I am going to take my friend hog hunting he is from AR i am from LA i know it is hot but i hunt year "round" i usually use a 22 lr or a 22 mag at the most we use dogs to "bay" up the hogs they usually run from 120lbs to the old boars at 6 or even 700lbs i have never had a proablem with my 22 i killed a 529 lb hog with one shot from a 22 lr. but he wants to kill one with a bow on the ground and doesn't want me to stand backup with my rifle this sounds dangerous to me i have been cut twice hunting them once really bad what my question is is there anyone here that has hunted them with a bow from the ground i am an avid bow hunter but i have never had the desire to do this ( with my dogs i can give him a nice standing shot) but i think i'm going to bring my rifle P.S. i have never been cut by a hog that i had shot

My son in-law has asked me to go on a hunting trip with him. He does a lot of bow and gun deer hunting with his family here in Northeastern Wisconsin and at his family's deer camp in Northern Wisconsin from Mid-October through November. However, he wants to take me hunting somewhere different, just the two of us, for which I am very grateful. I do love to hunt pheasants but do not care much for the meat, do not have a hunting dog, and could not really find many places in North or South Dakota that interested us. Somehow we stumbled upon "Hog Hunting." As we discussed it we really liked the idea, neither one of us has ever done it before, our families love pork, it would be good practice for him for deer hunting, it is something different, we might be able to go in September, and important to me I may not have to sit in or under a tree for hours (which I hate).
However, we have no idea where to go. We have a week to 10 days for our trip. On the internet it looks like Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas are the best places to go. Driving from Green Bay, WI we would rather go to Oklahoma or Arkansas, but what is most important is to have a great time and maybe bring some meat home. There are so many places to go and we have no experience so we were hoping you we could get some help from all of you. Does anyone know of some good outfitters, guides, or hunting ranches to go to? We would also like to do a little fishing too. Our budget is around the $1500 each amount. We really appreciate your assistance.

Has anyone on this site done ant wild hog hunting? I live in Missouri and just read in the paper we have over 10,000 wild hogs in our state. They are getting so bad the conservation dept. wants you to kill any hogs you encounter on site.Just wondering if there are some hog hunting pros out there that can give me some pointers.

I went with my buddy javelina hunting down here in Arizona when we were 16. He was bow hunting from the ground and I was just along for the trip. We set up a call on a bank and boy were they vicious little suckers. A herd of about 6-8 came running straight for the call and there was a huge one near the back. My friend wanted to get the big one but the others kept running. He's hitting them with his bow as I'm keeping them back with a big stick. He never got a shot off as they took off and we both received a few minor cuts. We still do it and have not had any problems since.

Using dogs for any sort of hunting (except retrieval) is cheating, in my opinion.

I have taken many hogs with a bow on the ground. I would not do it with dogs.If he doesen't get full penatration. You could have a broadhead sticking out of a hog.Bad situation for all involved.

I personally would not hunt feral pigs with a .22!
I have worked way too many hogs. Maybe a .44!

How do you hunt quail or pheasants Mercury?

HOG HUNTING WITH A .22, I DONT THINK SO:

A friend of mine here in Florida, HAD a son, KEY word is HAD. His son and a friend went Hog hunting, using dogs, the dogs put the hog at bay, the boy shot it with the .22, only wounding it, the hog rushed, knocked the boy down and peirced his heart with a 5 inc tusk, killing him instantly.

From that day on I wouldnt hunt a hog from the ground.

i have been hunting hogs for around 15 years and i have never used anything more than a 22 mag. i realize that they are a dangerous animal i recpect them but i do not fear them. i have cought and cut and earmarked hogs since i was 10 years old. but when hunting no matter the game that is hunted shot placement is everything you can shoot a 90 lb deer with a 50 cal in the hoof and it isn't going to die . i did not realize that this was such a touchy subject (22 cal) because the majority of people here hunt with 22 or 22 mag P.S. I live in SW LA i just wanted to know of anyone's exp with hogs taken with bow from the ground

oh and to touch on the subject of dogs i use dogs for two reason one of them is to "bay the hogs up" then i have two dogs that stay on a leash theese are my catch dogs when i want to catch one to tie it up i turn theese dogs loose also theese dogs can stop a fairly large hog even when he is mad but it takes a lot of training. when you take your retreaver out and he has a bad day and doesn't preform up to par you bring him home and train some more when my dogs don't preform i bring them home and bury them. i trust my life to theese dogs oh and i use rocky mountian curr dogs alot of people use pit bull dogs but i prefer the curr it would be rather futile to try and hunt here with out dogs and until you have had to crawl through the swamp and briar patches for hours at a time don't say that this isn't 'SPORTSMEN LIKE"

We hunt in the marsh with dogs. I used everything from knife , pistol, long guns , bow........But just like varmit hunter said , I had a friend's dog get sliced open by a arrow that did not fully go through......The dog died three days later........We stitched him up on the deck of the air boat then to the doctor where he died........

If you want to bow shoot......leash the dogs first.......good luck...

SHAQ yes with the "lakers" went with my buddy last year and killed one with his 9mm.........They said he was a hell of a shot......

Heck, in these parts we hunt the big dangerous hogs with Daisy air rifles...and put 'em at bay with our pack of attack rabbits. Got a 700 pounder the other day. He slashed through the rabbits and charged me, but was no match against the Daisy and Thumper.

Next month we will use rubber bands and spitwads. Got to make it sporting, you know. :-)

i dont think a 22 would kill it in one shot but maybe a 22 mag.

i hutning 1 or 2 hogs with 22 takes alot of shots to drop em.

i pump a good 14 rounds in to one before he died.

i got a sks now that drops them fast.

i going to get ar and hunt them.

if you use a bow try to get the drop on the hogs.

coonass i was scared to mention knives after the response about the 22 but on smaller hogs that we catch @ 60 to 120 we just stick the pig glad to see someone from sw la here i know now that everyone doesn't think i'm stupid now lol
