I had the same problem some years ago. I was going to replace the water pump and when I disconnected the hoses to the pump, I found the button from the sleeve of my wife's blouse in the line !! It must have come off as she was loading the dishwasher. Removed it and everything worked fine. Maybe your problem will be as simple.

    Thanks---Peabo

Try running some drain cleaner through it.
I had the same problem as you, a month ago. I put the drain cleaner stuff in there, then ran it for about 3 seconds, to pump the stuff into the pipe. I let it set there for 15 minutes and then ran a cycle to flush it out.
Fixed it, didn't eat through any pipes.

After you get it repaired make sure you put the right kind of soap in it ( Dishwasher ) NOT Dishwashing. I didn't know this but do now.

Personally, I'd never put drain cleaner in a dishwasher. There is supposed to be a loop from the pump, up to the underside of the counter. If there is no loop, and if the drain is holding water, the backed up water from the drain will flow back into the dishwasher.

It is probably the pump. Call the Kenmore people.

Many dishwashers have a directional valve on the pump, it is probable sticking open due to crud. As jservic said, this will let the water flow back in after the pump shuts off. Clean the valve or replace it. This is also why the Draino works well, it cleans the valve.

I've found buttons in the valves etc. sometimes that's the cause. The reason the pump works for a bit and shuts off is because it has a built in sensor that turns it off when the water level drops. this is an electromechanical device, probably attached to the pump with wire, should be easy to spot. this sensor can be stuck, corroded, defective etc. you can replace it for ten bucks.
