Sharps Rifle Range report

Well I got my Sharps 45-70 rifle the yesterday and took it to the range today. Was shooting hand loads: 500 grain flat nose lead match grade, pushed by 41 grains of Varget powder. Rifle shot nice groups, but beat the hell out of my shoulder. Pictures to follow in a day or so.

Give yourself a break and try the 405 grainers.

How would you compare the recoil to a bolt action .30-06?

In my 46-70 rolling block I use a 500grain fn with 60 grains of black powder not too bad on the shoulder.I think a 3006 is worse.
