Besides the original series of Philadelphia Inquirer articles, this has links to interviews, pics, videos, audio files of radio traffic, etc.

Anybody else looking forward to this? I want to see it but at the same time I don't: I still can't get those awful images from Somolia out of my mind. Seeing those poor fellows dragged through the street left me depressed and angry for weeks. I read the book a couple years ago and thought it was great, but again it just left me furious. Such a loss of so many good men.

Anybody watch the "True Story of BlackHawk Down, Somalia" on the History Channel last night? Wow, what an amazing program.I am absolutely amazed at the utter chaos in that country. And, even more amazed that our former leader, Klinton, pulled our men out of a country after 18 people died fighting there. We should have unleased Hell's fury on those useless anarchists after what happened.Anyway, it was a good program. If I get the chance I'm going to go see Hollywood's version in the next few days.G36

I know, you're right SaxonPig. It just infuriates me seeing those jokers jumping up and down on a dead U.S. Soldier's body. It's like they're not even human, sub-human maybe. Absolute animals. And, yes, I'd love to see us level that country. But, I understand why we can't.

Like it or not, our soldiers were like "tethered goats" waiting for the slaughter. The president and his defense secretarie, for political purposes, sent in the troops without outfitting them with the proper tools. They had requested armored pc's that were rejected by the secretary, who later resigned amist great controversy, saying "if I would have just known".If our men would have been successful in this mission, Klinton would have lobbyed the Nobel Peace commission for an award of Humanitarian of the Year.Where was the outrage from the left, then.

Last week one of the Phoenix Az. tv stations interviewed an ex Ranger that was there that day and he said the movie is very close to what took place. Also,a Phoenix newspaper,The Arizona Republic, did a story on him.Everyone of those people are heroes.

In the movie "Blackhawk Down" there is a scene where one of the Rangers is removing the rear armor plate from his Ranger Armor. This happened in Somalia. Some rangers took shots in the back and the ricocheted off the front plate and then exited the back creating two wound channels. I got this info from COL (Ret.) David Hackworth's book "Hazardous Duty" (also author of "About Face" -- good stuff).

"It's like they're not even human, sub-human maybe. Absolute animals." Yup things like this happen in wars. U.S. soldiers brought home VC ears 30+ years ago. I am with Saxon on this one: they are still living there, how much worse could it get for them?

I can't seem to recall what rank he was, it's been a few years since reading the book, but Steel(sp?) is now a BTN CO in the 10th MTN D. He's got 2/22, who are in Bosnia now. LTC Steel forbids any soldier in his Battalion from reading the book while assigned to 2/22

He's a junior this year and needs to raise his ASVAB score by 2 points. As soon as he finishes out his junior year of high school, I'm going to do my damndest to get him Ranger and Airborne school in his contract.BTW: I wasn't screwing around here when he came in. The station commander was working with him while I was taking care of some other necessary business. [This message has been edited by idsman75 (edited 01-23-2002).]

I caught the History channel story and saw the movie as well. I was suprised to say the least that Aidid's son was sent to the US to be educated. He even joined the Marine Corp. I can't believe after living here, going to school, AND being in the military, he went back and took his fathers place. I guess he didn't learn anything. I am a student myself and one of my classmates on the GI bill (formerly a marine sniper) was in Somalia in the intitial "invaion"/task force. life is a strange thing sometimes
