Handgun Safety Classes

I want to take a safety class with the aim of obtaining a carry permit. I would like some general info on what kind of accuracy will be expected. I seem to be a better shot with semi autos, but have arthritic hands, and I'm a bit clumsy wracking back the slide, so I'd prefer to use a revolver. Can someone give me just an idea of what I will have to be able to do on the range?

Don't know how it will be in your state, but I was talking to two of my shooting buddies who obtained their permits last year, in Arizona.
They were required to fire 5 or 6 shots (slow fire)at a standard center fire pistol target. Distance? About 15 feet. If you didn't get all shots on the 2 ft square cardboard backboard, they let you do it again. The emphasis was on safe gun handling and not profiency in shooting.
Also, they let you use whatever pistol or revolver you want and not necessarily what you will be carrying. Some used .22's.
This will probably be different from city to city. Some towns may have a different set of guidelines. It depends on where you are at. Why don't you call and ask them. They can't eat you. It's against the law.

Old gunner in my statw (NC) I had to fire 40 rounds at a full size silhouette target at 3 to 7 yards distance. The target was so big and th distance so small that I just pointed my gun and got 40/40. Easiest thing I ever did.

gunner, in florida if you take the course with a revolver then you will only be able to carry a revolver...if you do is with a pistol, you can carry either.

The gentleman that gave me the course was an NRA certified instructor that works at my local range. He just watched me shoot a couple of magazines and made sure i hit the target at seven yards. Wasn't hard at all. Also, i don't think it matters what caliber pistol your shooting as all they are looking for is your profiency in shooting.

    hope this helps

in ill and mo both do not have concealed carry laws however for qualification as armed security you must shoot a 38 spec.. to qualify you have to score 80%. 12 rds at 5yrs 12rds at 10yrds 14rds at15yds and 12 rds at 25 yrds with 6 from knealing with a rest and6 standing. i am not a very steady shot but have never had trouble passing. at my age you just have to coordinat the shakes. carl

Last weekend I took the "NRA Basic Pistol Course" on saterday and then the "NRA Personal Protection in the Home Course" on sunday. Here in michigan the home protection one is required before you can apply for a CCW. I didnt think I would learn anything from the Basic one but ended up learing a few things. I am an avid Bullseye shooter, and to go back to some basics reminded me of a few things I had forgoten.

Thanks guys. I don't believe I'll have any trouble at all with targets that close. Now to find a class.

In PA.- no test what so ever just passport photo.
In FL.- two hour video and have to rapid fire and hit target with six rounds. I used my 5 shot Ruger SP101 and passed with absolutely no problems. But I carry my Ruger P-85 15+1 rounds. You can take the test with either Pistol or Revolver it doesn't matter.

Charlie, Nearest town is Oak Ridge TN. I'd appreciate any help you can give me to find a class. I haven't had much luck. Nothing in the phone book. I can probably call the TN Dept of Safety and find one, but if you have addresses or phone numbers, it would be great.
    Thanks

oldgunner, go the the NRA home page. They have a state by state list of certified instructors. Too bad you're not closer to me.
