The Tikka whitetail deluxe 270 that I won at the RMEF need's a scope and I'm leaning towards a Shepard, But before I buy one can anybody tell me why they would be better than an lepould.

A hot barrel, is a warm fuzzy feeling.

Shepards are the fastest range finding scope I have ever seen. If you order the correct size circle (18") that roughly corresponds to the height of a whitetail back bone to briscut. You simply raise the scope until that area fits in the circle, and there is your range. They may also make a 24" circle which will correspond roughly to elk. They are truly a fast aquisition scope. If I am not mistaken, Mr Shepard was an ex-sniper, he designed the scope to be fast for the "shot", if you will. I would trust them to get me a quick and reliable shot before the leupold, now optical differences are another story. I would go for the shepard if you need quick ranging ability. Just my .02

    When in doubt...empty the magazine!!

From my experience, their customer service is top notch and the ladies that answer the phone really know their stuff.

Just tell them what you're gonna put it on, and they'll hook you up.

My shepherd is much clearer than eather of my vari-x 2 leupolds (one old, one new), and the range rings are right on the money for me.
If you handload your ammo, give them your actual volicity and bullet type. Balistic tip type bullets with warm loads can move you to a different model.

Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.
