My History Teacher

I have to tell this story because I want to show you guys what kind of teachers there is out there.

I attend high school here in Tucson, Arizona and I'm in my history class today while our teacher is trying to explain the Constitution to us. She's going through the bill of rights and the other ammendments and "teaching" us about them when she happens to skip over the second ammendment. I ask her about it and she replied, "It's not that important, it's just about guns." I couldn't believe it! I told her that she was wrong and that I believe it's very important. She blew up at me and threatened to kick me out of class. I couldn't help myself to ask one more question, so I asked who did she vote for in the last presidential election. She responded Al Gore and asked me what did that have to do with anything. I simply said nothing. I finally realized how liberal teachers are. They're feeding us garbage and I think about 95% of the kids dont even know it.

Thanks for letting me vent, I was just so angry.

She should be brought before the board of education. There is no room for a teacher who only teaches what they value...All students deserve to know about ALL of our rights, not just the ones that liberal teachers feel we should know about. You go to your principal, and complain. If that doesn't work go to the Superindendant, if that doesn't work, you, your parents, and everyone else in your community that you can rally to your cause attend the next school board meeting and express your dissatisfaction with this teacher. Be sure to mention that she threatened to kick you out of class just because your opinions differ from hers, and therefore would have deprived you of an education just to satisfy her own agenda. Things like this go on because of people who allow it to go on, if you don't stand up for your rights people are going to step on them.

    RockinU,

I would like to, but I can hear it now, she would say that I was disrupting her class. It's the excuse that teachers love.

Let her make her excuses, but make sure she is making them before the school board, it will raise awareness as to what kind of person she is. It might make her pay more attention to her duties in the future. It might do some good. Besides if you want to have that 2nd ammendment you may as well learn to stand up for it now. You may not accomplish a thing, but you'll never know unless you try, then try again, then try somemore. Many, many things from football games to wars have been won on try alone.

Wheres Bullzeye when you need him, maybe he can give you some pointers. Wonder how the security thing worked out with Bullzeye?

Its almost summer bud, dont stress out over the teacher. Talk to your parents about it, and see if they can do anything, but dont get your butt chewed out or worse, just before schools out. Maybe you should ask the teacher if she knows how many ammendments there are, and then ask if that includes the 2nd. Then ask 'If the 2nd isnt important, why was it included in the final count of how many there are, and why was it one of the first ones to be put into the constitution?' If it isnt important, then why is it the only one talked about on the news? Good questions, but you'll get your but chewed.

If the 2nd isn't important why is it right behind the 1st?
I understand you wish not to be singled out, and possibly punished.
But understand that standing up for your rights, even the unimportant 2nd, is a life long fight. I would bring this to the attention of others, possibly first to your parents. And let the teacher know, privately, that you do not consider the 2nd amendment unimportant, and you believe the many that have died in service to their country, felt that way also.

My daughter brought home a Social Studies text book in Jr. High that had a section about the Bill of Rights. It only listed a couple of them in the text. You had to go to the back glossary to find a list of the rest and the short definition for the 2nd Amendment said it refered to state militias. I don't know what's worse, having a teacher ignore the issue, or teaching the "liberal twisted logic" version. Procede carefully Garandfan. I admire your values, but you may not like what the school board decides to make the teacher present in class.

Do not do anything that could be blatantly regarded as disrespectful.

But if I were you, I'd try, in a really innocent way, to force her to bring up the issue again. Ask a very studious and innocently worded question about the 2nd Amendment, and write down her statement verbatim. Quietly, of course. You dont want to make it look like your entrapping her.

When she does that, calmly get written statements from every kid in the class asserting that she did in fact say that, and then bring them all to the next school board meeting.

If you can prove that she told a classful of kids that the 2nd Amendment is stupid and not worthy of teaching, her * will be on the sidewalk within the week.

Unless you live in California, in which case she will get promoted.

    You takes yer chances, boss.

PS- An update on the cop story. He ended up leaving on his own accord to move to another state. We got a new cop, one who isnt at all a bad guy. He doesnt bother anyone, doesnt stir up trouble, and so far hasnt had a single incident to worry about. Gee.....go figure!

".If the second isnt important, why is it behind the first"
The amendments are not listed in order of importance, but is listed as AMENDMENTS to the already written constitution.
    Amendment 1 deals with congress(article 1)
Second and third amendments deal with the "militia" part of article one(section 8)
Amendments 4-8 deal with Article 3(Judiciary).
And the last two amendments spell out that anything that is not covered in the constitution, is left to the states(most important-most neglected)

Biased teachers was one of the numerous reasons I elected to drop out of school during the ninth grade. I took the GED tests and am now a college freshman. I am probably going to take this year off from school to work for some money so I will be able to afford guns and ammo though.

Dealing with the school system is near impossible unless you can dig up lots of dirt to use as leverage. My mother and I did and we got what we wanted.

Just wait until you get to college, Garandfan. You will not believe how liberal most all your profs will be, they will try to make you feel like patriotism is is a dirty thing. Several years ago my daughter's 9th grade history teacher assigned her students to write a paper on the evils of the U.S. dropping the atomic bombs during WWII. My daughter wrote her paper, which met the criteria for the theme "evils of dropping an atomic bomb", but also expressed her thankfullness that droopping the atom bomb ended the war and saved the life of her greatgrandfathers and uncles as well as millions of others. She received a "U" or unsatisfactory for the assignment. I was also an educator at the time and demanded a conference with the teacher and her department supervisor. The end result of the conference was very satisfactory as my daughter got a B+ for the paper and her greatgrandfather (US Navy Pacific Theatre) was invited to speak to her history class about WWII, his experiences in combat and his opinion of the atom bomb being dropped. My daughter's history teacher had no idea or concept that the evil bomb killed a bigger evil and was only used after much moral contemplation by our leaders at the time. Her perception and opinions were formed by her wonderfull college profs.

I suppose that teacher wasn't familiar with the unspeakable human rights violations and tortures that the Japanese were committing prior to the dropping of the bomb during WWII.

    gunpaq,

Hopefully I won't have to worry about that because I'm in the process of applying to the Air Force and Naval Academy. I don't think that they'll be too liberal there.
