Wild hogs--we caught a few lately

My hog hunting buddies and I had 4 in the traps yesterday morning. The intent was to take all alive--there is a hunting ranch that pays $50 each for them so they can charge city guys $500 to come hunt (now, that's markup!). But one of the hogs got its head between the trailer and trap and almost escaped--had to kill it. Luckily it was only 140 pounds so we dressed and skinned it and put it in the cooler. The other 3 were successfully loaded in the stock trailer. One is a reddish color weighing about 275--a sow that looks "piggy" (pregnant). The other two are solid black boars, with terrible attitudes, weighing close to 400 pounds each. Not much good for eating unless made into sausage. We eat only the little ones. They taste great...in fact, we cooked a hind quarter today. It's so brushy in these parts about the only way you can get a hog is with a trap baited with sour corn. The 4 yesterday makes 21 caught since January. By the way; we kill the hogs with a 22lr--one shot behind the eye.
