hunting scope suggestions

I need suggestions for a quality scope to mount on my Barnett Rhino Quad crossbow. I'll be using it for whitetall deer hunting in the woods and shots won't exceed 50 yards. I was considering mounting my Simmons 8-point 3x9. Last season I couldn't take a shot at a nice buck because the glare was so bad. I've checked into holo but not impressed with 1x power.

FYI...The scope mentioned above was replaced with a Leupold Vari-X II 3x9 and used on my model 70 .270

Opinions also for using a riser scope mount? I was able to take a deer one year because I was using a riser mount. It was so dark and such a close shot (4-5 yards) that I couldn't find the deer in the scope. Thank you riser mount. But does the scope now sit so high that it kills accuracy at different distances? Consider that the crossbow is not a flat shooter.

If you wasnt happy with the scope because of the glare, and that was the only reason.I would buy a pair of scope shades. They work pretty well but it seems to me it hurts you when your hunting in low light conditions. But I still have a pair on one of my Deer rifles.

I can't imagine you could use over 4x and 2x would probably do the job fine. I should think a decent inexpensive scope like a Bushnell would be just fine.

The typical power of a bow scope is 4x32 and its known as a mult-a-range. Has anyone used one and would you recommend it? If not, what is recommended? I've never seen scope shades. Are they slip on lens caps?

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

I have an old 4x on mine, and to tell you the truth, at close range, it is still too much. That's why I suggested taking a look at the holo sight or red dot. I would say that a cheap 4x compact scope like bushnell would be just fine. Don't spend a whole lot, it is only a 35 yd weapon at best.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

Bushnell or Simmons makes scopes specifically designed for crossbows.
I have one of the 4x multi range scopes, and I'm happy with it.
It has 4 horizontal cross hairs, I can keep good groups out to 45 yards with it. (I have a Horton bow) It's around a $100 priced scope.
Scopes designed for crossbows are supposed to be built better to withstand constant shock. Many of the economy rifle scopes may not hold up on a crossbow. happy hunting

Gundawg has it right!I have a Horton & mounted a tasco scope on it & shot it about 30 times & the tasco fell apart. So i went with the Horton scope made for crossbows & have no problems with it.If i was you i would buy a scope made for crossbows. Hunter
