So, I at my local Verizon store who supplies me my internet/phone
service.
The techie offers me a Jet pack wifi thingie for one dollar. It's the size of a fat credit card.

I need something to stay internet connected while I'm traveling and at the camper trailer by the lake.

I get home and test the speeds from Nashville....
39 ping---download 31 mbps----upload 16 mbps

My wireless router here in the house...
40 ping---download 31mbps----upload 19mbps.

Can I expect similar speeds as I get father away from Nashville???

We use Verizon MiFi 4G LTE. It is faster than our DSL, at times, but I am under whelmed to be honest. We have limited options in the mountains.

Verizon is probably the most expensive provider out there, but I love the speeds they have. You do get what you pay for!!!
Comcast cable comes close or better depending how far you are from the main line.

Do you see any speed drop off in different parts of the country?

Depends, time of day seems to effect it more. Overall yes there is a difference but I havent narrowed it down to particular areas.

Location, location, location. It all depends on where you are, and that could be down to a few hundred feet.

I have an El Cheapo Verizon powered Samsung phone.I tried to get one without even a camera in it.I tried to have TEXTING disabled but,it appears, that cannot be done. All I wanted was a phone that takes incoming calls and allows outgoing calls.I didn't really even want/need caller ID.
    I pay $50 a month and THOUGHT(because when I signed the contract)I had 450 min. per Mo.NOOooo.Now it's $50 a month for 350 min.
Still,I have never had a cell provider that has virtually ZERO DEAD SPOTS..
I was deer hunting in Levinworth? Indiana, deep in a stream bottom,at least 40' below ground level and at 0545 the damn phone RANG!!!
Until I feel like their actually tearing my rectum apart,i'll stick with them.
Their little else that's worse than HAVING to get a call in or out and U have ZERO BARS in the signal meter!!

I have a Verizon JetPack and I carry it across the country in the 18 wheeler. I couldn't be happier. I use it to run my laptop, I can watch music videos, highlights of the Sopranos, whatever I want.
Get great service wherever I park, and, when I had a partner, I had great service while rolling down the road.

Only place I can't get service is way out in the west Texas desert 30 miles west, or east, of Van Horn. Out there, you go 30 miles between towns, hell, you go 30 miles between houses. Not too many cell towers in the west Texas desert.

You are in Tennessee. I have used my JetPack all over the state, Knoxville, Nashville, Memphis. Never have found a spot in Tennessee that it didn't work, of course this was mostly interstates.
I distinctly remember, several years ago I had just gotten my JetPack, I wanted to see how it worked while rolling. My partner was driving, I turned on the computer east of Knoxville at 65 mph.
We rolled around Knoxville to the east, then headed north towards Kentucky.
I ran the thing for well over an hour and it never skipped a beat, worked flawlessly.

I have one and never had a problem except their limits. It is supposed to be unhooked from power, when charged up. A charge lasts around 5 hrs, I guess, maybe more. I actually swapped the plug-in power pack for one of less amps so as not to over charge when it is ready but not unplugged as in over night.

PS the bugger just dropped off as I hit Post. It happens but rare

Use one with my police computer. Have it in Nevada now and it does a great job.

Yeap the $1.00 units are last weeks model {if you know about computers, you'll understand that remark [:D]}.

The newer ones have a bigger read out screen.

We have one for the cabin in the wilderness and it runs our internet very adequately. Verizon has 4G coverage almost nationwide now , with 3 G in a few places(half as fast) and only small pockets of dead zones. If you are transient, you will probably experience variations in speeds.Terrain and skyscrapers will also create short dead pockets. Newer versions of your jet pack will not be faster, only have a different display. You can also establish a similar hotspot with tablet or smartphone if you have those. Been using it for 2 years and I find jetpack a good tool to have.

My verizon phone and jetpack lose signal a lot out here west of I-35, it was roaming in Iowa and Missouri on I-29 yesterday. Tons of places in the Rockies where there is no signal from any carrier for miles and miles. Running down RT95 in Idaho and Oregon I lose signal for just about 100 miles. Verizon coverage is great east and south but sucks weenies in the west and northwest.
