New AK-47's

I just went to the gun store and he had a new AK for sale. When did they start to re-manufacture these? It only had a ten round mag, and the sales guy said the old mags won't fit, true? (This is the same guy who told me the Brady was going away) looked like a reasonable price(269). Do you think they will make Hi-caps for them eventually? Thanks--Mark

greetings, it sounds like the romanian sar-2's , they have been out for a year or so. they can be made to accept a double stack mag, but it's illegal to do so. respt submitted dads-freehold

NOS Ak's are going for around $300. Don't risk jail for $30.00! This dealer/friend of yours says the Brady is going away. Yeah, like I wish I was 30 again!

I think you're looking at the WASR-10 rifle that's been out for at least a couple of years. It accepts a single stack mag of 10 rounds, right? No, I don't think there will ever be a mag made for it that holds any more than 10 rounds in a single stack. Maybe one of these days they'll repeal those laws restricting capacity, but, until then, this rifle is only good for a placebo for the real thing in place like the PR of Kalifornia. As mentioned before, to modify one is STUPID! SAR-2's are chambered for .223 cal./5.56mm, and do accept hi-cap mags.

Keep looking, normal Romainian SAR-1's (and SAR-2's) go for about $300.00 to $350.00 and when I last checked there was quite a few here on GB. This is where I bought my SAR-1 last January.

If it was a wasr-10, they can be converted to accept double-stack mags. It can be done with a dremel. It is illegal, but I am fairly sure that if you replace it with 5 U.S. parts, then it becomes legal and you can use the double stack mags. Not too cost effective though, because after you replace it with the 5 U.S. parts, you will probably pay the same price as you would have if you bought an SAR in the first place.

I just bought a wasr 10. It came with two
double stack 30 rd mags. It does require
so many us made parts (5 or 9?) I dont
remember which...it is LEGAL with the parts
conversion, ILLEGAL without. Some guns are
shipped to the US as original guns and will
only accept 10 rd single stack (or less) mags.
Others are shipped incomplete and us parts are
added to make them legal for high cap mags.
