BEEN A BAD WEEK

i've had the worst week that i can remember in recent years. i had to fire somebody that's worked for me for 2 years tuesday and my forman that's been with me for 10 yrs put in a 3 week notice today. the two are unrelated, but both still very hard on me. my foreman is just a little burned out with his job and he's staying on for 3 weeks so the transition to a new forman will go smooth. he and i are still good friends. i consider him the brother that i never had. i've wanted to quit many times in the past and came close on several occasions, but i own the business and it's all that i know. i'm sure i'd be right back in it working for somebody else, but that would probably be worse. atleast it'll be friday in 1.5 hours. o-well, i just had to get this off my chest.
on a better note, tomorrow it will be 5 weeks since i STOPPED SMOKING!!!!!

Firing is the only part I really hate about my job..........Is your foreman retiring or moving on...............But just think it can always be a lot worst........the grass looks greener but it rarely is.

You didn't say if your foreman had another job or not. If not, have you thought about offering him another position--one where he doesn't have to worry about all the things foremen worry about. He may just need some time to recover from all the stress of managing with people.

If he leaves, let him know you will always be interested in him working at your company. Someday, he may come back. I've had several supervisors and foremen quit only to come back in a year or so.

And congratulations on staying away from the smokes.

don't personally know any of you guys, but consider ya'll friends and i needed to get this off my chest. sorry if it's boring....

i'm in the logging/tree removal business and he's getting out completly. he's been offered a job as a construction super. and he's ready to make the move. i'll greatly miss him because i've learned to depend on him in the last 10 years, but i think he'll be much happier. this much makes me happy, but the firing will cause me to loose sleep. jobs are hard to come by around here in this business, but i had little choice in the firing. he caleed today asking for his job back and i told him to give me a chance to cool down and call me in a week.

i offered him another position today and/or take a week or two off, but he's ready for a change of scenery. he know's he'll be welcomed back if the new job doesn't work out.

Just a thought....why not offer your foreman a partnership
of; sometype in the business? If he we're working at
something to build up his own assets, he might visualize
    things differently.
