What's up with Sig???

About 5 (6?) weeks ago I ordered a Sig 229 (.40 cal) through my gun broker. I am still waiting. I was told that law enforcement orders and so forth were the problem. I was wondering if anyone had any intel on this situation. I have already added night sites and other goodies to it and I haven't even received it yet!

P.S. yeah, I could have ordered one from a local gun store. They
want $830, before taxes...But I got this for about $690 including
taxes...that is if I ever get it.

It seems that...AHEM....SIG, among others (Glock comes to mind), have been using this excuse for back-orders for some time now. Hmmm...

A couple of years ago, when our department purchase of SIG pistols was long delayed, it was because of military orders.

I wonder what they tell the military when their orders are late?

I have experienced this with SIG before, but I will have to beleive it. I was buying my stainless model 92 beretta and it took mucho time to find because the DNR gets them first due to their work on the salt water around here. this came from the wholesaler, not the company itself, therefore, I took it as fact.

Don't forget, the FBI, CIA, NSA, SEALS, Secret Service, etc are carrying a large percentage of SIG's. that may indeed be part of your problem. It is however, worth the wait!!!!!!!!!!

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

    Speed,price,quality?

What do you want to pay for.
Have you actually paid for it and not received it?

It is one thing for a dealer or broker to say they can sell you something for a certain price and another to actually get it. I have suppliers all the time making promises they can't keep. I learned a long time ago not to quote a price unless I can deliver on it.

Years ago I had a guy in the electrical business tell me a story. Seems he was in the local contractor supply store and a guy came in and asked for a particular item. The guy working there said "Yes we have them on hand, they run $12.00" The customer proceeded to say "The last place I was in just said they could sell them for $10.00." The store owner asked "Well why didn't you buy them there?" The customer said "They are out of them right now." The store owner replied "When we are out of them, they are only $8.00."

The guy decided to shut up and buy them for the $12.00.

Years ago I had a distributor that advertised a particular rifle for $459. Every other supplier in the country showed them at $599-610. For 9 months I called that supplier with an order centered around getting that rifle and a few other things to round out the order. Every time I called I was told "Temporarily out of stock." There were six calls over a 9 month period each time I got the same answer "Temporarily out of stock." Finally on the 6th call I had yet again put together a fairly nice list of things to buy, including that rifle. Yet again I got the same old excuse "Temporarily out of stock." I asked the salesman "I've been calling you guys (not toll free) for the last 9 months. Every time I have tried to order this rifle I've been told 'temporarily out of stock'. When was the last time you guys had any of these in stock?" I hear the guy typing at the other end of the phone. Pretty soon he comes back on the line and says "Well, according to the computer we've never actually ever had any of these rifles in stock, but if we did, we'd want to sell them at that price." What I said to him about the policies of his company after that shall not be printed here, but let me just say that I didn't waste my time calling them again.

My point is that if you want something, hopefully you'll either have the patience to wait indefinitely or be willing to pay a reasonable premium to have it now while your are still young.

    Gentlemen,

Thanks for the heads-up. Someone asked what I want to pay, have I ordered it, and so forth. Like anyone else, my budget is limited so I shopped around. I have an acquaintance who has a small store on the Truman Lakes in Missouri (Lowry City). I have done business with him for 2 years. He is honest, a heck of a nice guy, and the price he quotes has always been what I ended up having to pay (sometimes less!)
For example, in December I purchased a Tikka Whitetail Hunter in .30-06 for $470 out the door including taxes! Anyway, the local stores have Sigs in 226 and 239, say they can get the 229's, and want $830 and up. My friend Larry Gates said $690 out the door including taxes!

I called Sig yesterday afternoon. They told me they were "back-ordered" in the .40 caliber and the government had snatched them all up. They told me that they should have the new ones for civilians in June...
I had narrowed my choice down, after a year of mulling this over, between a Sig 229 in .40 caliber or a Para Companion .45 auto stainless with the 3.5 inch barrel. I have a Ruger K94 (stainless .40 auto, but it is a bit bigger than I really wanted, and I figured if I am going to lay out this kind of cash, I might as well go for the top of the line). Anyway, who knows what to believe. I guess I'll give them a little longer...

NOTPARS, if you are going to be an owner some day, you should know that SIG is an acronym, so it should be spelled in all upper case letters. Finding one with "night sights and other goodies" should make it even more difficult than a plain pistol to which you could add the "night sights and other goodies" after you receive it. Good luck in getting your pistol someday.

The SIG 228 (M-11) was a joy to carry. It was cool because I could take a nap in the office wihle I was on-call and I was able to find it in the dark due to those great Tritium sights when the phone rang for me to go somewhere.
