What's the deal with H&Ks?

I was at the range the other day and I finally got a chance to test out the H&K 'Compact' in 40. What a monster! It's says compact on the side but I'm willing to bet its just as large as any government model 1911. Due the wide grip and pronounced recoil I found it to be a bit too unwieldy but on the plus side it was extremely accurate. Upon disassembly I noticed that ALL of the weight was concentrated in the slide, the frame's weight was negligible. I'm glad I found out before I bought one. I also had the chance to try out a Ruger Mark II with 7(?) inch heavy target barrel in stainless. What a pleasure to shoot! The good balance and weight of the weapon keep it right on target for quick follow up shots. I think I pinned my smallest group ever with that little pistol. 5 shots, three though the same hole and the rest of the holes all touching. I was also able to consistently hit a small ammunition box at 50(+) yards. On my way home I stopped by Carter's Country to bug the staff and play with the toys. I had just watched the 'Quick and the Dead' the other night, and since there wasn't anything particularly new since my last visit I asked to see the stainless Ruger Vaquero Bird's Head in 45 Long Colt. It was LOVE at first fondle! It was solid like a rock, the action was silky smooth and the balance was fabulous! The hammer fell easily and sharply under my thumb as I lifted it from down to front and center. I could almost hear the whistles from Good, Bad and Ugly. I've been bit by a completely different kind of bug, and I think I'm going to like the rash. Any other SA Revolver fans out there? Is the Vaquero in 45 LC a good starting pistol for cowboy shooting, who sells the best rigs?

Sheriff Munkey. We had a gun club member,That due to health reasons only reloaded, And shot a pair of vagueros. Each pistol had more than 8000 rounds of 45 LC shot through them.In the past I had shot by him quite a bit. One day he invited me to shoot one of the vagueros. I shoot a 44 magnum. When I shot his vaguero,Was I ever surprised. He had worked up loads to equal a 44 magnum. I thanked him and moved farther down range. No doubt these were two tuff pistols.I would not try that hot a load,For any reason. I think for the price you cant come close to a vaguero for value.I just plain like the way they handle.

    Monkey,

I'm a big fan of the Vaqueros! Mine is in .357 magnum, but if I had it to do again, I'd have bought the 45.

The new Vaqueros that Ruger puts out usually come with a conversion cylinder for .45 ACP.

    That's the ticket!

Oh, be sure to go STAINLESS! :-)
