I know "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".....just got my latest issue of American Rifleman and found an unusual number of "commemorative Limited Edition" guns & collectibles available. Just wondering who would buy these?

Colt 1911 Titanium (Gray or Gold) "Rattlesnake Legacy Limited Edition" complete with rattlesnake skin grips....$2295.00

"Liberty Rifle 9-11" (10/22 Ruger)...a regular 10/22 carbine with lazer engraved walnut stock and a gold medallion....$449.50

"The Official Colt Python" .357 Magnum Collectors knife...$37.50

"Elvis and Graceland Tribute" Winchester Model 94 lever action, lazer engraved stock, gold receiver and engraving....$1895.00

The manufactured collectible business is a "cheezy" business in large part. You don't crank out memorabilia. It's a contradiction in terms.

But there are a few emotional types who will buy this or that item commemorating a favorite something-or-other. The thing is, orders are taken and sometimes these items are not manufactured unless enough orders are received to make production worthwhile.

Obviously, the prices have very little relationship to true value, and the mark-up is huge because these people have to make a lot of money on a limited run or go out of business.

Yup, you'd be supprised, though its a cheesy business, it must be a good one, cause they're still in business, and don't look like they'll be going out of business any time soon.

Though it may not be real memorabilia for say. To someone who has a passion for something the firearm represents, it can be a real desired item. For instance, I love the movie Resident Evil. If they were to come out with a Resident Evil Commemorative HK SL-8, I'd darn sure buy one.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

In the sceme of things, the big question is, do the guns actually shoot?I used to work in the musical instrument retail biz, and special "commemorative, special collector edition" guitars would come along priced upwards of $8,000 or more, and were completely unplayable!(Gibson guitarts comes to mind).Yeah, The collector, commemorative, thing is a load of crap!

I always thought that these were things that others bought to give to someone else. I can see a group buying a WWII commerative for a retiring WWII vet for example. Sure don't think people buy them for themselves!

The ones that PEE me off are the knives ... "Official" Colt, Tribut to the Flag, God Bless America, Soar with the Eagles, blah, blah, blah. All chep pieces of crap made in Taiwan, Japan, China or some other far away land that don't give a rats * about America or Americans !

Taz, Hurrah! Why can't they get down and get some American made stuff.
I know I'll get hammered but that's similar to the flag deal we had here last month. You can't buy an American made U.S. flag made by round eyes anymore.

If I was rich, which I am not,I would own every gun that was ever made. This is the real word so I buy guns and shoot them.

Somehow I just can't see taking the Commemorative "Elvis Presley" Winchester 94 to a local Cowboy shoot or defending your country with the Blue & Silver engraved AK47 they had advertised a couple of months ago....

I'd just get the regular glock, unless your obsessed with 9/11 memorabilia... I know a couple of people who collect the stuff, they might be interested in something like that. It was a pretty big event for my generation, I might get one one day, but not now.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

Free country. Different tastes. I do not want anyone telling me what to buy, and I wlll not tell others what to buy.

The people who buy these are similar to people who buy commerative plates, coins, etc.. These people have guns engraved by non-factory sources, have their names engraved on their guns, have their guns "redone," buy non-factory display cases, etc.. They just like this kind of stuff for some reason. I have a friend who likes this kind of stuff for reasons I do not understand. If there was no demand, they would not exist. Supply and demand.

Like P. T. Barnum said, there is a sucker born every minute, but there is no law against being a sucker if you want to be.

I'd like to have one of those Colt WWI Commemrative 1911A1's. They look pretty nice and don't cost an arm and a leg.

i think weve done way too much 9/11 tributing and not enough 9/11 retributing.
