As of tuesday Louisiana has 71 cases and five deaths, with another three
months of skitter weather. this is the largest ever........

New York in 1999 had 62 cases with seven deaths...............

    currently:

    Mississippi has 22 cases

    Texas has 10 suspected cases

    Arkansas has one suspected case

All that is outside with skitters should take this serious.....

Northeast Indiana has so many dead birds they've stopped counting and collecting them. They're telling people not to touch them without plastic covering the hands, but to dispose of them yourself in a plastic bag or drop the bag at Vector Control. They're also saying do not walk outside at dusk or dawn, and when you do go out, use 29% deet spray on yourself. The only thing I've got that's that strong is made to be sprayed on clothes only, and allowed to dry for 2-4 hours before wearing! So far only horses are four-legged cases, but I worry about my dog too.

Worry about anything that can be stung by a skeeter.
We shall see many cases of this virus before the virus runs it's course which may be never.

Scary thing for me. There are way to many skeeters where I live.

If you will blame gun makers for every shooting then blame car maker for every car accident.

Thanks for the links, I found the answer to my only question I didnt already know. Dogs and cats can be infected by the virus...

    Q. Can West Nile virus cause illness in dogs or cats?
    A. There is a published report of West Nile virus isolated from a dog in southern Africa (Botswana) in 1982. West Nile virus has been isolated from several dead cats in 1999 and 2000. A serosurvey of dogs and cats in the epidemic area showed a low infection rate.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

Where did I say 40 yr old ???

1994 and 1998 less than 20 cases total
    1999........two humane cases.........over 100 horse cases
    2000........no humane cases.........five horse cases

2002.........71 humane cases and five deaths

1 was under 14 ye old
    11 was 15-29 yr old
    11 was 30-44 yr old
    15 was 45-59 yr old
    15 was 60-75 yr old
14 was 76yr old and older

five that have died thus far......one was 58 the rest over 70 yrs old
