    Cool!

I only see two small does right now, but I like the camera over the feeder.

    A deer feeder? Huh?

What kind of hunter FEEDS the deer?

    Thats crazy!

Kind of takes the sport out of it, in my opinion.

I agree that hunting deer over a feeder is wrong and is not by bag besides it is illegal in my state to do so. I use my feeder to get turkey in the area, I take pictures and my wife gets to see animals that she would normally not see.I have tried to get her interested in hunting but have had no luck.

I dont want to start a war or even a big discussion over hunting deer over a feeder, however... Its not legal anywhere I've hunted either, but if its legal to hunt deer over a food plot of grasses, whats the difference between that and a corn feeder? None, no doubt about it. Its a no brainer. The wildlife gets a huge benefit of the food plot, or feeder, and the hunter gets one deer a year, or a few in some states. The amount of corn that deer eat from a field that is planted by a farmer is huge, but no one will call it baiting if the farmer knowingly leaves some and hunts the deer when they come to it in the fall. They'll say, well the deer have been eating the corn all summer, he should be entitled to shoot a deer for all his loss. Same thing applies to the hunter who feeds 1000 lbs. of grain over the course of the year just to improve the wildlife in general, including deer, as I have done, although I hunt the trails going to the feeder as opposed to hunting over the feeder. I believe I'm entitled too. Again, I hate double standards, enough said.

Hey Sarge, Last evening while at the bench which is located beside one of my alfalfa fields, while shooting in another 17 for a friend(all 17VS are not created equal, more on this in another post) I had 4 bucks walk out between the 100 and 200 yard targets!! 2 were 6 pointers just even with their ears so they don't need shootin this year. A forkhorn that appears to have genes that would make him a high-racked deer and the appointed target for Miss Sarah for the fall! A high and tall racked 10 pointer that is 2" outside his ears now!! They all continued eating while I shot the 17 and shot some groups with the xp's in 7BR!! They know they're safe for now and that alfalfa is SO GOOD!!!!! Plus they needed to get to the salt lick!! GHD No I don't hunt everyday but did this evening and Sarah killed her 6th groundhog!!! She also shot number 7 but he fell down the hole and I couldn't get him out using the old barbed wire trick!! GHD

ROBSGUNS---It is legal to hunt over feeders, etc. in North Carolina. Most of my friends do hunt over corn and they do not kill any more deer than I do in Virginia. It is my preference to not hunt over a feeder. Deer are not stupid, have keen sense of smell and if I do not do my homework in the area I hunt then I will not fill my tag.You are correct in setting up on trails leading to food plots and eventually, will fill your tag, that is smart hunting, see nothing wrong with that.

I bet I go through 1 1/2 - 2 tons of corn every year. When all the slickers come to my side of the state for the rifle season, the deer get wary and my corn piles which we start putting out in october through february, is what keeps the deer traveling our property. We don't hunt over the bait, but it sure helps to keep them in your area. Someone who thinks that hunting an agricultural field is different than hunting a bait pile has lost their mind. They are sitting on the biggest bait pile that there is.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

Besides, who said anything about hunting the deer on that website? I think it's a great idea to have a feeder with a camera on it.

Well I would never ever hunt over a feed station! The corn field I hunt in Missouri is just part of the natural habitat right? Boy, mule deer sure do not act like whitetails at all, completely different animals. I bet putting out corn would change that though...

    He Dog,
Actually there is an excellent book that I have, a set actually, written by Robert Wegner, Book I is Deer& Deer Hunting (The Serious Hunter's Guide), and Book II Deer & Deer Hunting (Strategies and Tactics For The Advanced Hunter). In these books there are a lot of studies which have been done, scientifically, and most are what appear to be sound from both a biologist's view and a hunter's view. One thing that comes across in one study is that a deer that is not familiar with a certain food will not eat that food when introduced to it. It may take a couple if not a few years before the deer will learn to eat it. Provided of course its not starving and there are other foods it normally eats available. This being said, I've noticed that the corn I put out isnt being eaten by deer either, as they dont have a clue what it is, turkey are sucking it up, but not deer. So for those that think putting out a food that isnt normal to the deers environment will bring in the deer, you may not have luck with it, dont be surprised. I have salt blocks in the vicinity of my corn, and that is the only thing the deer seem to really have any interest in. Baiting should be done with something the deer knows. I believe that anyway.

There is plenty to eat right now and deer in my area will not go near it most of the time but I agree the turkey gobble the corn up. There are going to be some over-weight turkeys.

    coonass,
I dont know where it is, I should do a search and find out. I'm not the original poster of this site, I just brought it out of the dungeon, cause I thought it'd be nice to watch these bucks go through the stages of antler development. I dont know of any other sites like this, it may be a one of a kind, I have seen a lot of cam sites, but not any like this one.

Yep, it happens all the time, but...only during the non prime time viewing. I think it gets shut down during those times. Its always up during prime time viewing. Dont worry, you'll get your fix, I just went there myself and figured, oh, ok, I'm early again.

robsguns---On the subject of deer,I have hunted a deer for the last 4 years, only see him in my headlights while coming out of my hunting area.He is huge bodied deer with a rack wider than his rear rump and at least a 12 pointer. I seen him in the daylight this evening same huge rack in velvet, but I was keeping up with him in my truck coming down an old mtn. road. He was limping and was not moving well at all.I got a real good view of him from the side and could not see any wounds, hope maybe it was just a sore foot.It has become a yearly routine for me to hunt this deer and I hope no one has shot him.So far this deer has always out-witted me but it has been fun.

Your only consolation if you dont ever get him, and he just dies, is this. Think of all the pleasure hes brought you, yeah a little frustration, and all of his gene pool running around out there. Hes had a good life.
