I was going to put a very substantial bid on it until I saw the shipping.

I'm sorry but you must be out of your mind.

That's what it costs to ship a gun Fed-x as a non FFL holder. Or more.
Or, I can take it to an FFL and pay him $20-30.00 to ship it plus the shipping and where are we at?
Place your "substantial" bid minus the shipping and see how you do....

Nice pistol. To bad the goofy b.astards that control my state won't let me buy it.

just a possible way to say a few buck on shipping , pay your FFL to ship it but have him use a USPS flat rate priority box , with insurance it should only cost about 12 bucks for him to ship that way, plus his fee of 20 -30 you still come out ahead

There is no law you have to ship overnight. Neither FedEx, nor UPS have ever asked me what I was shipping and IT IS A LAW that you don't label that there's a gun in the container.

I will put a $500 bid on it for you. maybe someone won't read the shipping cost.

I've toyed with that idea. Do you think it makes a huge difference if the shipping is say $30-35 as opposed to $60.00 with safe insured overnight shipping? On a $200-400.00 gun sure. I'm guessing this gun will go for a bit more though......If I'm the buyer, i'd rather have a fairly expensive gun shipped overnight so it's "out of the system".

Federal law also states that you must inform the shipper that you are shipping a firearm. If it is mailed there is a postal form that must be filled out for mailing handguns.

I mail guns through the mail and the gals and the postmaster know I own a gunshop. Long boxes are hard to miss. They've never said anything about filling out any form.
You know when UPS went to 2nd day air the PO revised their rules.

Gearhead, why don't you just go to www.ups.com and open your own account with UPS, then you can ship for much cheaper than taking it to a counter or having your dealer ship it. I ship handguns 2nd day air all the time and have never had a problem. I do all the shipping info on my home computer, print the label, and then just drop it off at the UPS sight and say, " here is a pre-pay, just dropping it off", no questions, no fuss, no problems.

I do have a UPS account. However, I was under the impression that as a non-FFL I had to ship handguns overnight. Was I misinformed? I can certainly ship right from my office if it's legal. It's not my intention to gouge on shipping or worse yet to let Fed-X get the money!

You can ship handguns 2nd day air and it cost around $20-25 depending on weight and location. Print your labels, never putting anything about firearms in the title, if you are shipping to "Bob's Guns", always replace GUNS with SPORTS, make it "Bob's Sports" instead. Make sure you insure the package and then just drop it off or hand the prelabeled package to your UPS driver. You can get 2nd day air stickers at your local UPS hub or by ordering them online.

The "overnight thing" isn't a law, it's UPS, and maybe FedEx, policy. They get to make their own rules.

UPS's major concern is not keeping guns in their system too long, that is why they do not allow ground shipping, too many chances for a thief to grab the gun. I always use 2nd day air and have never had a problem.
