Heard it on the"Bob & Tom show" this AM.
Happened in Maryland as I recall. Man attached a sex toy to a saws-all blade to pleasure his wife/GF.
But the blade cut thru the toy and.......well you guessed it.
Woman had to be life flighted to hospital.

In Michigan, you don't register guns, but every time you buy one, you have to bring it into the sheriff's office to get a safety inspection. I have brought them in, and they didn't even open the box to make sure a gun was in there. But that is another story. Now I have been told that they want you to bring your gun in for a safety inspection every time you modify your gun. Examples, new sights, new trigger, new barrel, etc. Has anyone else heard about this? I don't know if it is the county or the state planning to make this law. I will do some checking tonight while on patrol.

This site says the brakes are to be put in the NY SAFE Act. I may have missed something posted here, so if I did - I apologize. Link: http://absolutebsblog.com/2013/03/02/new-york-supreme-court-slams-on-the-brakes/

In Michigan you have to get a permit to purchase a handgun, at your local cop shop, and the inspection is basicly to make sure the SN's match on the gun and the owners greencard (not to mention to make sure they get their copy of the permit back).
The purchase permit is a 3 part form, seller, buyer, police.
At least that is how it was done for the last handgun I purchased (96). Have never had to get anything special for long-gun purchases (as of last month)
I haven't heard anything about re-inspection after alteration, Might be some Wayne County (Detroit) thing however, those a$$holes didn't believe in issuing purchase permits either.

    Keep us updated please.

mcneely77, I haven't heard anything about that. I am a member of MCRGO, the Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners and we are very active with regards to Michigan gun laws, etc. I would think I would have heard of this.

My last several handgun purchases (most recent about a month ago) are exactly as Tailgunner describes them. But, I can tell you the "inspection" was done by a clerk who didn't even seem very knowledgable about guns (she just wanted to verify the s/n on the green card matched the gun).

Wayne County has been notorious for being slow and uncooperative to gun buyers and CCW applicants. However, since Michigan State Law changed in 2001, the whole state now has the same requirements and law.

I've actually noticed a dramatic increase in the number of people interested in concealed carry, and therefore gun ownership in general, since Michigan went "shall issue".

Ditto on the rules, must be a city slicker rule or something like it. I never had to register, or have a long gun inspected yet.

    Guys,
I still have the occupational CCW, so I had to get the purchase permit a couple months ago when I bought a 686. I go in front of the gun board on Friday for the new General. I didn't keep my LEO certification up, so I had to get a occupational. I also belong to MCRGO through the Rod and Gun Club here in Berrien County. One of the guys on the Sheriff's Department was telling me about having to bring handguns in for reinspection after alteration. I didn't get from him, who's idea it was, the state or county. I searched MCRGO's website and didn't see anything. I was going to get with another buddy of mine from the county and find out if this is B.S. or not. If nothing else, I will ask the gun board Friday. I was suprised when I heard it. I won't believe it until I see it in paper. That whole safety inspection thing is B.S. I bought a Vaquero a couple years ago when I was going to get into SASS, and when I brought it in for the inspection, the lady behind the glass never even opened the box to verify the serial number. I * to Paul Bailey, our then newly elected sheriff and he said that he was going to get all of the people behind the glass firearms safety training. At least this time, she did check the cylinder and serial numbers.
