Anniversary tomorrow...

No, not my wedding anniversary. On Nov. 21, 1973 I walked into the Way of Japan Shotokan karate school for the first time. I stayed for 16 years and left as s second degree black belt. Later I joined the United Shotokan Association and was promoted to third degree.
I left that outfit and joined the Ryukyu American Shotokan Association where I remain. A couple years ago I was awarded my fifth degree certificate (as high as that association goes).
Now it's 43 years later. I teach classes at the college where I work but otherwise I'm too old, fat and stiffened up with arthritis to do much serious training. Quit tournaments six years ago.
Those first 16 years were the best of my life. I was young and strong and had a ball with a bunch of great people. I miss it. Wish I could do it all over again.
My first trophy in 1975...
About 4-5 years ago shortly after retiring from competition.

43 years is a long time to stick with something. And now we know what's under that hat!
