Marine Corp & Spec Ops

CNN has reported that the United States Mare Corp is looking a creating a Spec Ops Group. OK, Is this a spin on something? I am not sure. This concept has come up on more than once. The Marine Corps by nature in whole a Spec Ops team. In Viet Nam this question came up and the answer was NO! we will not create a spec Ops group. We control our own and will not give up that control. Spec Ops, Army, Navy and Air Force is controled by a group not connected to any one Force.

OK Ok There is this 911 concept that this is the PC thing to do. Wars/battles are not won by being PC.

I am a former Marine. If what I hear is that the Marine Corp is saying we can not keep our Corp up to the standard required then it is not the Corp I joined. Only a few in the few can be special? Hummmm sounds PC to me.

If I am asked my answer would be "The Corp is a spec Ops team and do what ever you need to to keep it that way". Damn the PC generation.

Yes I am more than a little upset about the notion. Then again I am a Marine.

Any comments Pro Or Con are welcome here.

    mrmike:
Then keep,it corp and not turn it over to a Spec Ops who ever is in charge. It is like turning over US troops to NATO control. Keep the Corp. the Corp. The Marine Raiders were Marine not Spec Ops.

I think the Seals do a very good job, and that Force Recon did a good job as well. Special Operations training is very different from Infantry, and requires a determined individual just to pass the the assessment phase to qualify for the training. After that they have to endure some of the toughest training known to man.
The training never stops, while in country, or on the battlefield. The Spec Ops soldier is always chosen to do the hardest job there, and gets the least amount of credit. They aren't Supermen, and get killed just like any other soldiers, but they sometimes take many an enemy with them!

Don't get me wrong now, I like the Corp and the Marines that make it up. I think they are better trained than the regular Army Infantry.

As far as Command being taken away from them; well--- you need to understand who is in The Special Operations Command. They don't have pencil pushing desk flyers there, they have real Commanders --- ones that aren't afraid to let their men make the right decisions. I live about 15 minutes from Command HQ, and have friends there and can assure anyone that if the Corp decides to develop true Spec Ops capabilities they will succeed.

Seems the Corps is ever changing. What I think alot of folks don't understand is that if the Corps don't change, we chance losing our success ratio. I believe very much that affecting change will keep us strong forever. Semper Gumbie I always say!

Seems to me that the Marine Corps IS special ops.

mrmike, the word Marine is always capitalized when speaking of the U.S. Marine Corps.
