i know, i know, it sounds crazy and even though i prefer open sights, are there any GOOD scope mounts for an m1 garand? my garand is a cmp dated 1943 so anything that would affect collector value{tapping, drilling} is of course out of the question. any info would be great.

Try Velcro.........just kidding. No scope on your Garand, they're for weenies as Dano 2 would say.

B-Square makes a mount that does not require drilling. It mounts on the left side in order to clear the bolt, so if you're right-handed it'll take some getting used to. I believe any mount for the M1 will be set up like this. It's also a little tall, and you'll have to remove the rear sight. Price should be around $85.

jdb123....They made a scoped Garand. The M1C and M1D. You should be able to pick up a nice "D" for about $3K or a "C" for $5K[D]

    JDB,
After you find a mount, you will need the cheek pad so you can hold your head up higher and to the left of the stock. You can probably find one at a good gun show. They are leather, they lace on and were made for the M1D's & C's.

jdb....don't do it to a CMP Garand. Get some POS Garand from the Blue Sky Armoury that has spent the last 50-60 years in Taiwan or Korea and do it to one of them. Your CMP Garand commands a premium that would be destroyed by tapping for a scope. I kinda liked the reply to go out and buy an M1D. They really get a lot of attention when someone shows up with one at a range. Beach

    Beach,
I have a M1D, Winchester mfg. Korean War vintage. complete w/M84 scope. Does anyone know if they make a mount for that to take a 1" scope? Not that I want to do it to mine.
