There was another thread about illegal immigrants in CA. getting drivers licenses. It sparked an issue that was a hot topic for a while; maybe it still is not sure. Anyway
The subject was about Truck Drivers from Mexico being on the interstates, and the safety of their rigs and driving exp. Is that still an issue among you guys? Has DOT changed anything?

Yes it is an issue. And no DOT is not doing anything. Whats worse is Canadian trucks. They have a lot more leway comeing here then we do going there.

OUCH! Dang. knew it was bad, but now from both ends! Thanks Tools1! I know zero about truck driving But I remember the media playing it to the hilt for a week maybe two tops. The talk shows had it for a while to but that was the end of it.

Still a VERY big issue. DOTs hands are petty well tied because of NAFTA. Tools1 is right on about the Canucks too except their eqipment is on par with most of ours.

Nafta has wrecked the trucking industry and when the borders are opened for the Mexs it will get worse.

The canadians are making out like fat cats since the border was opened for them, just imagine what will happen with mexican trucks running around here.

Aslo as much as the mexs try to get up here, what makes you think the mex drivers will go back to mexico? I see everyone in mexico getting a cdl and driving up here only to dissapear once they get here. Letting them drive past the limits now in place for border crossing will have damaging results to our highways and economy which in now in shambles because of Nafta. The canadians and mexicans have taken too much of our jobs and moved them across the borders and now their "cheap" trucks are taking what is left. If those who can see past the "feeling sorry for those poor folks" and see the damage done by Nafta maybe we can have Nafta struck down and get those jobs back as well as get the canadian and mexican trucks out of here and back where they belong.

Politicians are like diapers, every so often you need to change them, for obvious reasons.

It woud not be so bad. But Canadian trucks have free access. They can bring freight down and then pick up and deliver freight here in the States. While we have to have to have special permits to haul freight there. Then we can not haul freight within there boarders.
