Self Service Checkout....What?

I just finished a shopping experience from hell! Went to Home Depot to get me another cable for a table lock at this weekend's gun show. Cable cutting machines covered with stickers and signs....."Don't Touch...Employees only" and etc. Well, finally went to a service desk and asked for someone to cut me some cable.......three times! Let 10 minutes pass between requests and went back to the cable and waited....no one came! Went the fourth time and acted a "Fool" to a large enough extent they knew I was about to raise hell with a Manager. People standing around all over.....no one "certified" to cut a 3/16" piece of plastic coated wire rope.......What the Hell????

Finally, after 45 minutes or more, got a piece of cut cable and some fittings......went to the checkout stands. Gates shut on all of them, with five women clerks talking and laughing and gigling, etc. Said, "Excuse Me, but can someone tell me where to pay for this?" One Lady replied, "The Self Service Check out is Open!" and pointed to an area filled with about 40 or so milling around people and some "school teacher" type woman overseeing what was going on. "You can check yourself out right over there......!"

Damned if I didn "lose it." I asked what to do with the money I was going to pay for these items, Stuff it Up my Nose?" She politely and matter of factly said, "Oh no, there is a slot over there to put it in! Come with me and I will show you!"

NOPE!!! Where's a Manager? Otherwise, you take my purchase and go Check it out and take it home for me.......I don't work here and am not going to.......I was loud.....Where's the Manager?" One of those still talking, laughing and gigling realized I was angry.....came over and begrudgingly opened a check stand and checked me out......!!!

What the hell is all this? What did I miss since I was in Home Depot last month? While I was being checked out, I received a lecture about how easy it was.....I could even charge my own credit card.....bag my own stuff.......etc., and etc.........I'm not going back there for anything!!!!! Ever!!!! AGAIN!!!!!!

I'm wondering when there will be a sign on the counter of the local Super Market that says: "Serve Yourself --- Make Change in the Till!"
Is this the trend.......No Service at all unless you provide your own?

Contrary to what you may have been told, "Green Jello is a Side Dish, NOT Dessert!"

When we were in Canada 2 years ago we went to the grocery store to get some things. No bag person and we had to pay for the plastic bags to put our stuff in.

Go to a local hardware shop and have it done in 5 minutes.

    The big stores hire nobody's.

The local shops know what they are doing.

The big stores save you money on some stuff, but you gotta go to a local place to get the finite stuff.

They had the self service checkouts at K-Mart here...and they got rid of them after about 6 months...
    Reason??/...
Too much theft....People walking out with scanned and bagged items, but a total owing on the self service register...and of course the alarm is NOT going to go off, because the item was scanned...According to the supervisor at K-Mart, they lost billions...

The girls at the check out must be too stupid to realize it`s there jobs being eliminated with this self check out lane. They won`t be laughing and standing around for long. They will be in the unemployment line.Watch em laugh then.
The next step the stores will take is they will want you to go back on the loading dock and unload the truck to get the mechandise you want.

    BR- HAHAHAHAHA[;)]

Same here in CA. I kind thought they were cool, but then again I am kina a Tech-no-nerd anyway. Yep people could not figure them out, or they did not work, or they were getting ripped off blind. K-mart shut them down.

I just liked them beacuse most of the checkers are slower than the second comming of Molases

I liked the self service checkouts....no waiting in line, and if I dont feel like chatting to the cashier...well then I dont have too..but then again I was free to swear at the machine if I wanted to...there is no way its going to answer back...

I know a lot of people couldnt or wouldnt bother to use them, most times citing "I dont know how*....welll duhhhhhhhhh..you seen the cashier do it a million times...scan it, bag it, pay for it...

but until there is a better system in place to stop the theft, I think we have seen the last of them at K-Mart...

They had some at a grocery store in Indiana when I was up there. I could not get it to work[:(!]. I told every body that if they had these down south some one would drag it behind a pickup and shoot it[:D][:D]. And it would probably be me[:0][;)][:D]
