Anyone had experience with companies that do this work. Getting an estimate from ServePro Monday. My understanding is that these companies make the smoke damage go away. Anyone ever try this as a do it your self project. I am thinking that would be a bad idea.

U only need replace fire damaged materials. The rest is lightly sanded and given 3-4 coats of "KILZ"....Then U get a bill for rebuilding the entire residence...
I did smoke remediation as well as mold remediation work briefly. My conscience would not allow me to RIP off folks that had just suffered property damage...[:(]

Does odor get through the walls into the insulation? What about the floor covering? Floors are floating laminate and self stick vinyl tiles? I know I could save a bunch by doing it all my self but at this time of my life I don't really want to take the time to do it all. Not sure if the insurance will cover it all yet. Adjuster to look at it Monday. If they won't cover it all I am prepared to do some of the work if I have to.

I recommend all my customers to Servepro and have used them myself. Excellent company and do things right the first time. They are also a customer of mine here in south jersey and i service all their buildings. That would be the only call in my humble and experienced opinion. Oakie

fellow I worked with had a coffee maker short out burn up the kitchen smoke damage to all the house , do not remember the company name they told him they would get the smell out of every thing of free . his insurance paid so I do not know the cost , he did say it all came out good .
the kicker he just bought the house a couple months earlier and it needed a lot of work and got it free ( well at all our expense ) so new roof new kitchen new appliance's told me he came out well ahead

Drywall is rated as a smoke & fire barrier. As long as it is intact, you don't need to worry about the insulation.
