I would like to know if a CCW includes edged weapons? I have heard that it varies from state to state so; if you respone please indicate what state you live in and any supporting information. Opinions are also welcome. Thanks

I know all the states have different rules, but does anybody else have this one? Whatever gun you quality with is the only one you are allowed to carry. A record of the weapon you use to quality with, here in NJ, including serial nmuber is put on the report to the authorizing agency (NJ State Police)and that is the one you must carry. This includes everyone who has a permit, (including police officers) while off duty.

In Ohio the law going into effect in 90 days states that in a vehicle
your gun must be on your person and be visable or locked away.
Other than using a sholder holster and not wearing a coat in the car
can anyone that their state law is similar suggest ways to carry your
    pistol within the law?
In the winter time this seems like a pain in the butt.
Thanks for any help with this.

I live in Louisiana and last Saturday I took the CCW training class. I'm planning on sending in my application sometime this week and in LA. it's $100 to the state whether you get approved or not, as I'm sure it is in most states. I'm a little worried about one of the questions on the application that asks if I ever got a DWI. With regret, I have to say I did, 6 years ago, and I answered yes on the application. Does anyone know how much that will go towards approval/rejection? That stupid incident is the only negative on the application, and I'm now thinking it could come back to bite me in the butt. I'd like to hear ya'lls opinion before I send the application/MONEY! in seeing how I'll never see the money again if that causes me to get rejected. Any advice/suggestions/experience? Thanks everyone.

Well i should be taking the class here less than a month now, but i have a question. When i get my get my I.D. card (CCW permit), and say i travel to another state, do i have to get some kind of permission (document) from that state or can i just carry with card (ccw permit)in hand, or is that just for states that don't accept your states permit.

I am taking a trip to Kentucky from Arizona and I wanted to if there are any states I will have a problem carrying a pistol in. I know there is a website but I can't seem to find it. I will be traveling through New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Indiana and Kentucky.
    Thanks Tim

I know some states require a training certificate to apply for a license in their state and I'm wondering if anybody knows of a class here in PA, MD, nw WV or northern VA that would have a class that I could take in order to qualify for out of state permits? Aslo what are the good states to apply to in order to have very good coverage for the states that allow concealed carry? I want to try and cover as many states as possible without having a wallet ful of permits.

Scenario: You are in a Liquor store, gas station, bank, what have you, and an armed robbery is starting to take place while you have your weapon on you. If you are in the store during said time do you have the right to draw your weapon to take down said felon? Or must you remain just a bystander during a robbery? Also what is said perp pointed his weapon toward you demanding money, jewelry or anything else what are your options? I'm not saying that vigilante justice is necessary but just curious as to what you can do. This has been brought up a few times while I was at work and always wanted to here a educated response.

Stupid question. For a CCW gun, does a person have to be the purchaser of the gun? Can a spouse purchase and allow the other spouse to legally carry? I really don't see a problem but had two people ask me that question today.

If you can walk into a gun shop, purchase a firearm, and pass a background check, shouldn't you qualify for a ccw permit?

The only reason I ask is because my buddy was just denied for reason of being a adjudicated delinquent charged with a non-violent felony. (Keep in mind this is not true) Someone on the application side of this license messed up. He has been buying guns longer than I have and has more than me also. He has the right to appeal and he will, its just it made no sense at all to either of us that he was diended for this reason of being convicted at one point of a non-violent felony (which I stated above he is not) I have know the guy since kindergarden and he has never even be arrested before.

I don't know who is more upset, me or him, I quess he emailed the proper licenseing unit after about 2 and a half months of turning in his application. got a respondse two days later which was a simpil response "the process can take up to 90 days", then seven days after that he recieved his denial letter. Sounds like someone dropped the ball big time.

    So back to my question........[:)]

I have been looking at Packing.org but for a guy like me with limited thought capacity it's easy to get a migrane trying to consume so much info at once.

Charlie, I see FL is a good state and it looks easy to apply to, thanks for the tip.

Saxon, what 3 permits do you have that cover 17 states? Also are my emails getting thru to you? I have been wondering if the mailman has been there yet, I don't trust them anymore than the pizza delivery boy!

7MM...I think Josie1 has enough permits that he can carry in any state that allows it...or something close to that. I think we can agree that he is the authority on this board in getting out of state CCW permits.

Might want to ask him for a few tips.

I must not get out much, I have never heard of getting an out of state CCW. I thought that some states would honor your home state CCW if they had an agreement set up and that was all you needed to carry in another state. I live in Indiana and thought most states that allow CCW would honor Indiana's.

Smokeater, currently mine is good in 10 states plus my home state of PA, I was real surprised to see Michigan and Indiana covered. What I'm trying to do is get permits that cover the states I generaly drive in each week.

Saxon, thanks for the info. I need to find out if there is a class near home that when certified the states that require it will accept it, maybe I need to go to Front Site eh? I'm telling USPS I want a refund, that shoulda been there Saturday, they lied to me! Ohh well such is dealings with USPS!

7MM....I have a Florida "out-of-state" CCW permit and between that and my WV permit I can carry in 22 states. If you can get a permit in your own state, you can get a Florida non-resident.
It's a bit expensive. About $117 if memory serves.
Between my 2 permits, I can carry in:
    Alaska
    Arkansas
    Alabama
    Florida
    Georgia
    Idaho
    Indiana
    Kentucky
    Louisiana
    Michigan
    Mississippi
    Montana
    Nevada
    North Dakota
    Pennsylvania
South Dakota (Very recent recip. agreement.)
    Tennessee
    Texas
Vermont (Don't need a permit there.)
    Virginia
    West Virginia
    Wyoming

I looked into getting a ccw in Illinois. Nope, they don't even offer one. Only Police, Fbi, and Military can carry (I think thats what it said). I was transfered to a new location for my job. I'm 10 miles west of Chicago. I can see the Sears Tower from my work. I am a keyholder at my job. If the the alarm goes off there, the police are notified, and one of 2 people have to go there. I am one of them. We were robbed last Friday. The front door lock was pulled, and they took the cash drawer. The Police were not called, and I was not called. The other manager found out when he opened up Sat a.m.. We are still trying to figure out why no one was called. I have around 30k worth of tools there. I want them protected. If I do get a call, i'm not sure what I will do. I would hate to get there, and have no police around. Just being in the parking lot, could put myself in danger. I would feel much better being able to carry my gun with me. I wouldn't be Rambo, I would use it to protect myself. I wouldn't even go into the building without the police there. My manager takes his dog with him for the calls. Should I sell my guns and get a dog?

Most out of state CCW permits will allow a basic NRA certification course as long as you are licensed in your home state for full concealed carry. As of today I have a NY CCW,TX CCW,FL CCP,NV CCW and the CT CCW.These permits allow me to carry in the following states;Arizona,Alaska,Arkansas,Connecticut,Georgia,Florida,Idaho,Indianna,Kentucky,Louisianna,Michigan,Montanna,Mississippi,New Hampshire,Nevada,New York,North Dakota,Oklahoma,Pennsylvania,Tennessee,Utah,Virginia,Vermont,Wyoming.I'm sure there are a couple more states that signed on for reciprocity since I got my last out of state permit (CT) early last year.I am also considering getting a Utah out of state CCW, just because I can.
I mention this so all who are eligable for CCW permits to take the time and get them while you can.Until there is full reciprosity through the USA we must abide by the rules they have set.All it takes it a little time and a nominal fee and you will get your CCW.

While packing.org does have an abundance of information to find the most up to date information on the procedures of each different state you should call that states' licensing department. Personally I will probably never have an opportunity to carry in many of the states I am now legal in however I take comfort in knowing that if I have to I can, legally that is. Good Luck, Josey

The ccw question should be addressed by the qualification of the user, not the state they live in. Your state might be the next on the x list.

In PA. you give the Sheriffs office $14. and two passport photos. In a couple of weeks they send you a letter saying " We have found no reason not to give you a concealed weapons permit" "You can pick it up at the Sheriffs office." It's good for 5 years. I had a PA license for 10 years.
There are no courses to take or written test just money and photos.
CCW in PA. is great there are only two places you can't take a gun...
    1. Courthouse
    2. School Property

You can take into a bar or any state parks (unlike FL.)

I have my VA permit and I applied for a FL permit and am still waiting to hear back. I can not wait. When I asked about one in PA, all the places I asked told me they where not doing the out of state thing. But when I get my FL one I will be good in PA anyway.
