Modern Conveniences or Spoiled in the city.

One of my nieces went to spend the summer a small town in Nebraska and came across this situation which got me wondering. The story; She was taking her drivers license test and did not pass it on the first round. She had to wait for a week to retry the test. She had to wait because they were only open on Wednesday from 8:00 to 1:00. Anyone who lives in a big city is used to 5 days a week 8-5.The question; How many other conveniences are the big city people used to, and take for granted, that the smaller cities don't have. Like big city, 24 hour grocery stores, small town 8-5. Do you know of any other situations like this? Not really looking for the "I have to drive 50 miles to get to the store", but the differences that there are between big and small towns.

If I knew then, what I know now.

I grew up in a small town. I never went to the library because the book was always checked out.

Why does man kill? He kills for food. But not only for food; frequently, he must have a beverage.

Muggers, middle fingers, dirty air, chlorinated water, to name a few . . . lots of conveniences in the big city.

In NH, regulations require a seven day hiatus between attempts to pass the exam, even though offices are open daily.

I will not disagree with the IN-conveniences in the big city, gangs, pollution, traffic, the list can go on and on. I was just looking for the little things that city dwellers don't even think about.Good one about the book.

If I knew then, what I know now.

What is a library? There are zero gun shops in my area, have to drive into North Carolina but cannot buy a pistol. There is a local guy I deal with but it is hard to catch him at home and most of the time He has to order what I want, but I am thankful for that.

In a small community everyone always knows your business sometimes before you know it.I had a little misshap on my 4-wheeler and before I got home, some people had me at hospital, thank goodness my wife heard the story from me and not them. There was really nothing to
tell, did not put a scratch on me or the 4-wheeler.

How about being able to flush just about anything down the toilet. I live in the country and have a septic tank. We have to be careful about what goes down the drains and toilet. Even too much toilet paper can create a problem.

And dependable electical power. Just today, our power was out for 2 hours when a little rain cloud moved through. We did without power for 14 days a couple of years ago because of an ice storm.

City people take appliance delivery for granted. Buy a refrigerator and the store will deliver it for a few bucks, or maybe for free. In the country you have to do most of your own deliveries.

If a suspicious person lurks around, city people call the police and they are there in 3-5 minutes. We have half-dozen sherrif deputies on duty at any one time and they are covering the complete county. At best, they are half hour away, and that is if gun shots are reported. Otherwise it may be the next day.

One of the inconveniences is the small WalMart store in the town closest to us. It is so small it doesn't even have an Automotive department! No tires or batteries installed. Now that's inconvenience! :-(

Grew up in a town so small, it only had one horse..
Then one day someone stole the horse..
Next day's newspaper said "WHO STOLE THE HORSE IN OUR ONE HORSE TOWN?"

Grew up in the deep country, now live in the city. My apartment complex claims to have "hospital-grade electric service", meaning that it is supplied by two different grids. I have trash pick-up at my door, daily. I have 2 pools and 2 fully equipped work-out rooms. I am 5 minutes from Kroger's, Sam's Club, PetSmart, and many specialty shops and restaurants. My DSL is blazingly fast. The police actually show up if the alarm in my apartment goes off, as well as the private community patrol. It is nice. If I could make 1/2 of my current salary in the area where I grew up, I'd give up all this nonsense and be home in a heartbeat. Reckon that I'll have to retire there.

Piped water and sewer. Here in Bethel it's 95% trucked. Inside storage tanks for water. Sewer tanks are very well insulated and have tank heaters to keep them thawed in winter when it's 30 below zero. All of the surrounding villages have what are called "honeybuckets" for toilets. Must be taken to the sewer lagoon to be dumped. In other words, third world technology.

    Some other disadvantages are,
For kids.. unless you drive, you cannot stay after school for any activities... Often the parent is unable to drive the kids back and forth, and if they miss getting on that bus to take you home.. you are left there to find your own way home...
They say they have nothing to do, cannot meet friends at the mall, go to a show, dances.. etc..
How quick can an ambulance get their if needed?.. How close or far to schools? doctors? dentists?
I grew up in the country and hated it, no after school activities, electricity went out and was often out for hours if not days, the only thing I enjoyed was the hunting with my dad..

The town I grew up in was so small that it was against the law to kill two people in the same day,, "IT WAS A ONE HEARSE TOWN"

The town I grew up in was so small that when the Mayor went on vacation our village was deprived of its idiot.

If you will blame gun makers for every shooting then blame car maker for every car accident.
