Where do you shoot???

Here's what and where I can go, how about you guys?

1 Semi-organized range where the only real rules are the 3 basic NRA rules, and no full auto or excessive rapid fire, shooting within in your lane only, and no tracer ammo. This one is about 10 mins from my house.

3 Seperate areas of state land that shooters have been using for years. No regs. These are about a 45 min to 75 min drive.

4 seperate areas of private property where I know the land owners and all I have to do is call ahead and let them know. All of these are out here in "wheat field" country where most of the farms have some livestock so the rule is to retrieve brass & targets, and shoot any coyotes on sight. You nail a songdog or two and you've made a friend of any farmer for life. These are about an hour and a half from my house. The only rules that apply are good common sense.

The 25 Meter indoor range at my National Guard Unit's Armory Bldg. I had to sign a release waiver and take a class to run the range, but I'm on the list as an authorized user and can bring a guest. The only drawback is the pistol ammo must be jacketed and under 1,700FPS, rifle ammo must be either .22LR lead, or anything else must be softpoint or frangible, and under 2,000FPS. This is 2 hours from my house, but my unit is getting a new armory in the next 3 years which will be a half an hour from home.

I shoot pistol up to .44 mag in my basement range and for anything larger I shoot out in the back of my home where I have targets out to 200 yards. All .50 bmg gets shot in the mountains.

The reason it came up is, during the exchange of information on another forum site a fella posted this

quote: I live in Florida, not a People's Republic state, yet. Or at least not until Janet Reno get's elected , she would personally go to every single gun owner's house, take every single one of their guns and burn them, if she could.

I can't extend the bayo only at 1 range. It's the only out-door range left since it's so strict.

    Rules:
1 round in mag for centerfire rifles
6 rounds in mag for rimfire
6 rounds in mag for handguns
    No bayonet extensions
No standing up with centerfire rifles
No standing up with ANY gun at 100 yards (Yes, even a .22)
For pistol's and rimfire, only 1 shot every 3 or 5 seconds.

And the list goes on and on and on....

The more I read, the sicker I got.............

Good lord, Josey, you should have spoken up when somebody started that thread this week about a basement BB range. I knew it was possible to have a basement range with the right bullet catching device. How'd you do yours?

We have a public range that goes out to 350yds. It has 8 covered benchs. Its a pretty nice set up. I use to go to a indoor pistol range that went out to 25yds,but he closed it because the lead levels in his body were to high. It was under his gun shop. Someone is building a indoor pistol range close to the public range, so as soon as its done I'm there. lol

My boss, who owns resorts and golf courses has his own private "sand quarry" for his construction business. I'ts an 5 acre pit about 25 feet deep with an access road thats gated. They don't take sand much anymore, so a few of us were given keys to use it whenever we want. The property where this sand pit is located also has a lake on it. It seems like only a dozen of us use it. It would make great camping spot. Nascar track only one mile away.

    In Florida,
    (Jacksonville,) Two indoor gun ranges,
one trap/skeet (really nice, but gets expensive after a while)
one outdoor that has TOOO many AL Gores (nicknamed for anti gunning rules), but it is a nice range.
And the "farm". Place where full autos are welcome, friends can bring what they got, and expect to be able to shoot it with safety. If you ain't got it, come anyway, cause somebody will have one. Ammo is shot as fast as you want and skeet is shot when you get somebody to throw it. Friendly place, usually opens around sept and stays open as long as we can stand the heat.Only drawback, by invitation only.Sandman2234

Had a three gun shoot today, rifle, pistol, shotgun. That club is 30 min. away. (P.S. It was a HE** of a day the range, sir.) National forest, 30 min. away. (If you can shoot around the bicycles, hikers, joggers, etc.) Unsupervised club 1 hour away, 100 yard max. but you can shoot anything you want. Full auto (up to 50 cal.). Both clubs have trap, and I can use my thrower in National forest. When I do not want to shoot pistol in my basement.

If I knew then, what I know now.

Going to the Olympic Shooting Park in Chino, CA. this morning with my son, and maybe my wife will tag along. Going to be trying out some of my recent acquisitions. Ruger #3 in .45-70, Ruger Blackhawk .44 Mag., Winchester 9422 in .22 WRM, Luger in .30 Luger, Walther P38 9MM. May also take along the Marlin 94 in .44 Mag. Anyone in the area? Come on out and lets have some fun. (My son is 6'4" tall and 40 yrs. old)

Offeror, the system I used was by Supertrap containment systems.Better than explaining myself you can find out all you need to know here WWW.SUPERTRAP.COM Personally I started with their "tactical Target" but it quickly became to restrictive to the type of live fire training I was looking for, over time and as I could afford it I went with their total Bullet Containment System. It is not cheap mind you and as well as the backstop you must install ventilation and sound proofing on the walls andsd ceiling
(this is made easier however through another Supertrap product, ballistic tiles. These are 2'x2' rubber sound dampeners.
For me this was the best product,it has minimal upkeep and creates the least amount of airbourne lead than other backstops due to the way it grabs the bullet, stopping it in one whole piece rather than fragmenting. While this product is not for everyone it sure is one of the best of its' kind.Finished I must have spent in the area of $10000 over a few years time but for me it was worth it.
    "I hope this helps,Josey

    On land that I own.
Shoot in the middle of 320 acres, towards a creekbank at 800 yards that serves as a backstop.
Have shot coyotes and crows from my patio door.
One advantage of living in a rural area, where a gunshot will probably bring a neighbor wanting to get in some target practice too!
