Killer of Joe Howell sentenced

Yesterday the judge sentenced Tyrone Lamar Sanders to life without parole, plus an additional 35 years, for the Dec 23,2000 robbery and murder of my beloved son, Joe, at his BEST BET GUN & PAWN SHOP in Charleston. This was a well-planned robbery-murder and was caught on security tape which the killer kept as a trophy. The public defender presented a strong argument by "learned" professionals that Sanders had used drugs and therefore should be considered mentally impared and not be sentenced to death. In other words, it seems if one is guilty of one crime (using illegal drugs)it excuses him for doing a more serious crime. Sanders, we were told, would be confined in a maximum security facility and would remain there until removed by an undertaker. I imagine this is harsher punishment that the death penalty and all its appeals while Sanders lived a life of semi-luxury in his well-equipped room on death row. We are all saddened, as are so many hundreds of people who knew and loved Joe, by his departing this life, especially under these circumstances. As his father, I often find myself in a state of denial. Crazily I talk to Joe and he talks to me. His mom is in bed crying as I write this. Many of you know that she has had a stroke due to what has happened to our son. All those who knew and loved Joe will always remember him and miss him. He did so much for the less fortunate during his lifetime and he offered no resistance to the robbers. He cooperated fully with their demands and begged for his life. Those who knew him will agree that if the robbers had asked Joe for money to buy their family Christmas presents, he would most likely pulled it from his pocket and given it to them. He was that type of man and his kind are indeed rare. He was raised in a Christian home, was a Christian himself, and we know he in Heaven waiting for us to join him. But we miss him so much. This is not fully understandable unless you experience it and I pray that you never do.

Thanks for the update. I remember you posting shortly after your son was murdered, either here or on some other forum (Huntamerica.com, perhaps? Not sure about where I read it).
You have my sincere condolences, both for the loss of your son, and for the everlasting effects it had, and will have, on you and your wife. God bless you and keep you.
My familes prayers and condolencies for your loss. I can't imagine what it is like since I am fortunate to have my two great sons living nearby and well.

I can't pretend to understand the pain you have gone through, and are still going through.
The only solace I can offer is that our so-called justice system didn't let you down, and from your post I see that you know you'll be seeing your son again!
May God bless you, keep you, and continue to give you strength.
I know it must have been difficult to write us this update, but thank you.

You and your family are in my prayers.

Protect our Constitutional Rights.
I know from my personal experience that this will not give you the closer that the bleeding hearts like to say it will, but you will find much more peace know the guilty man will never know freedom again. It will give you the oportunity to survive the remainder of your own time here on earth. My prayers are still with you and your family, and I hope you can rest with the results of the sentenced passed.
God bless,

I think we need swift punishment. If guilty beyond any doubt the guilty should go to the gallows or firing squad not some hospital room with sterile scringes and knock out dope. I get so sick of hearing of a soured life as a child, abuse as a child, and drugs as an excuse. Let me get off my soap box.
knowing your seperation is temporary like leaving a relative in another state but knowing if the good Lord tarries you'll see them again after a period of time; You can rest assured your son is enjoying the wonders of Heaven and he and you will be reunited.
Imagine after seeing the glory of Heaven what Joe might tell God if he were asked by God, "Joe how would you like to go back to my footstool for a few more years?" I can imagine your son's reply might be something like this, "No thank you Lord, I think dad might give me the boot for giving up all this just to come back and say hi."
Our existance here is but a vanishing vapor for God looks at a day as a thousand years. Those few years offered Joe would just be long enough to say ,"Hi". If it were me, I'd be like Joe, I'd opt to stay in Heaven.
