Due to my job,I may have to relocate to Delaware. I live in New Jersey. What would I need to do to move my guns there?(paperwork wise)?? I have several rifles and a few handguns. In NJ you have to register all weapons and have a FFL.Thanks for any info you can give.

Find out the laws of the states through which you will be passing. Hypothetically speaking, you should be protected by the interstate transportation law as outlined in Title 18 of the United States Code. However, stopping over for more than food or fuel may get you into trouble in certain states. If you can lawfully possess the firearms you have at your point of origin and at your point of destination you should be okay according to the interstate transportation law. Just make sure you don't stop at a hotel for the evening in one of the more restrictive states. I've moved (with my guns) from the west coast to the east coast and then from the east coast to the midwest in the last three years. I also enjoy long distance drives and don't stop for more than food or fuel.

rewirerog2 is confused about NJ law. There is only voluntary registration of firearms and no FFL is needed to own them.-Charlie

Voluntary Registration! OH I bet every criminal in the state lines up for that one. I think I would just have to hold on that.

Is voluntary registration Mandatory?I had to do mandatory "voluntary" community service 19 years ago. That's how the courts put it to me. My crime wasn't to bad, I have a CCW. I don't think they give those to felons.

My mistake in terminology, guys, NJretcop is correct. It's a "firearms purchaser ID card", not a FFL. It's been a long day. Cost $49. BUT..took me SEVEN MONTHS(just got it) to get back my handgun purchase permit--that is way out of line for an honest citizen. I understand after 9/11 everyone wants to be careful, but...New Jersey is actually a nice place to live, been here for 38 years.
